i just bought my first humidor. a 100 ct.,yesterday i filled the humidifer and a shot glass with 50/50,today it only reads 55%. any info would be nice.

Did you wipe down the wood? Did you calibrate your Hygrometer with the salt test? Do a search and you'll find a lot of answers to your questions...

Is is glass-top, and how often do you open it to check the hygrometer? Leave it alone w/the shotglass of distilled for 2 days, atleast...then check. Peeking only let's dry air in.

take out the shot glass with the 50/50. the PG won't get absorbed in the wood it will stay in the shot glass. put in a small bowl of distilled water, 3 or 4 ounces. if you are in a hurry, wipe the wood with a damp cloth of distilled water.

you will notice how quickly it drys on the wood because the wood is absorbing the water. you can repeat the wiping every few days without harm as long as the wood absorbs the moisture of a "damp" not wet cloth.

make a humidifier instead of the mini one that usually comes with humidors and of course, calibrate the guage.

calibrated it with a teaspoon of salt and a few drops of water, the instructions with it said not to wipe with water. thanks for input.

to wipe or not to wipe is a long standing debate... I'm a wiper.

Wiping with water tends to raise the grain of the wood ... it might not do so, but why take the chance? ... as Rick said, skip the PG and put a bowl of water in ... close the lid and leave it alone for a week or more ... then, take his advise and forget the little OEM humidifier ... he's gonna send you good directions to make you own that will work better and be a lot less trouble for you ...
