well, I'll probably be in a bad mood for a while - this having a kid thing is stressing me out... in addition to converting the one room in the house that was 'mine' into the baby room, figuring out how we're going to survive w/ my wife not working, etc... now the doctor says we have an elevated risk for a problem like down syndrome. We go in on Friday for an in-depth ultrasound to find out for sure. I'm a nervous wreck, but I heard that a lot of the time these tests are wrong......any insights would be helpful....good news is, we find out the sex on Friday too...

So, if I'm a little grouchy (like I was w/beta),then that's why....

I have zero input on the test other than seeing the same scenario on an old Cagney & Lacey episode.

There is nothing you can do about it other than pray. Look out for the Good Thoughts and Prayers Bombs about to fall.

Keep us posted on your babies situation and that of your wife.

As for your room... my deepest condolences on your loss. It too shall return in time.

Don't worry al'Thor.... Your in good Hands and so is your baby and wife. Many prayers are on the way. Kids are a joy at times. And a challenge at all times...

I am guessing the triple test was the reason for your concern. My wife had a high reading with our last child. As you said a false positive is quite common. The ultrasound hopefully will alleviate your concerns.

Dangit all to heck. You guys are the best. I'm not one for cheezy sentimentalism, but it just nice to be able to hear diff. experiences, etc. Anyway, thanks for the prayers - and I'm happy to tell everyone that the doc just called and said he re-checked everything and the technician entered something wrong. we actually are better than normal so there's nothing to worry about. we go in on the 15th to find out the sex. now I don't know whether to be happy or pissed off at the technician. I am by no means an authority on this subject all I can offer is what I have seen. My wife and I know two families that had to go for more testing and one of them had it with both of their kids. My understanding is that if the first test is inconclusive or shows any possibilities than they take a closer look. In all three cases that our freinds were involved with the test came up negative. For them it was just precautionary so hang in there, it is probably the same for you.

Ethan we were told that our 1st had a very good chance of being a downs baby. I remember my wife telling me and she was crying and I said "so"? She looked at me like I was crazy! I told her "it doesn't matter, we are having it (we did not know the sex) anyway! 13 years later Meghan is the leader of the "4 little people" She is head strong ( I have no idea where she gets that from) beautiful and full of life. The doctors test's were off with the dates or soemthing. I'll keep good thoughts for you and your family my friend. God Bless Rob

That is great news. Your new baby will stress you out many more times in your life but evrything is worth it. Ask anyone here who has a child and they would say all the stress is worth everything. you have many, many smiles to look forward too.
