World's first rodeo was in Pecos ... July 4, 1883.



The Flagship Hotel in Galveston is the only hotel in North America built
over water.



The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman who was the
first full time coach for Rice University, Houston.



Brazoria County has more species of birds than any other area in North
America.



Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the winter home of North America's only

The State animal is the Armadillo.

I had never heard that one about the birds before, I just received this in an email. I knew quite a few of them already, but I wasn't going to spend my day trying to verify every last one to see if it was true or not. I just thought it was interesting, especially if your a Texan.

I thought the flag height thing was because Texas was the only state ever recogized as a soverign nation by the U.S. (for ten years!, and we had our own Navy!)

Oh, but I did check out Caddo Lake. The official site does say that is *was* the only natural lake in Texas. It was dammed some time back, so the naturalness is now compromised. And Texas shares this special lake with Louisiana. Man, Texas must be dry! And I don't have anything to do today but Google the CBid forum....

I been eating jalapeno jelly since the late 60s'. And my mother tells me my grandmother had been making it all of her life. Maybe the first commercially available jalapeno jelly, was made in Texas in the 70's. But not the first. I can't even claim that for my grandmother. Don't know who first made it.
