For all the folks who get frustrated at the "overbidders", you've either got a very short exclusive list of gars that you (and everyone else) are looking for, OR you aren't spending enough time checking out the samplers. Expand your horizons!

I just picked up a Red Raider Combo (a travel humi and 10 Bohemian Reds) for $22.00! The way I look at it, based on CI prices I got a 26% discount on a nice robusto size travel humi, and they threw in 10 Bohemian Reds for free! I also watched a Heavy Weight Contenders Combo (five Fonseca F & five eXtremes) go for under 2 bucks a stick. God Bless America!!!

P.S. - sorry if I'm giving away any trade secrets here. I just figure there's enough to go around ;o)

i agree

just about everything i get here is about

half the price of my local shop.

i have seen a few things around here going higher

than they should, and i think if those people are willing to pay that much, let them have em.

thats called an auction.

i love this place.

As long you're a competent and conscience bidder (know your msrp and/or regional prices) and don't let emotions get the better of you, lots of great bargains are available.

I concur. Nothing beats cbid --- NOTHING. I've been addicted for the last 3 years --- obviously due to the GREAT deals that are to be found/had.

Agree with all...........but, sometimes it's hard to figure out. When a bid is "too high," to whom is it "too high?" "Too high" for me because I was outbid for the lot? "Too high" for me because I know I can buy it for less, elsewhere? I've said it before and I'll say it again, IMHO there is no such thing as a "too high" bid for the individual doing the bidding. If it's a lot that he wants, and he's willing to bid that amount for it, obviously he has assessed that it's not "too high" for him, or he wouldn't be bidding on it.

That said, I, too, have bid on, and won, lots that in retrospect I consider "too high" because I have found the item elsewhere for less cost, or see where they have sold at auction for considerably less than what I got them for ("buyer's remorse"). BUT, the point is when I made my bid I did not assess the bid I placed as "too high" for me AT THAT TIME, versus my desire to have the product, or I wouldn't have placed it to begin with.

Just my thoughts...............

arwings, et al. By one philosophy it can be thought that no one ever pays too much. They pay precisely what they are willing to. CB does not shill them, or bait and switch, they know exactly waht they're getting and pay exactly what they want to. that being said I believe it's arguable whether overbidding even exists.

Perhaps it is higher than YOU want it to go for, but it's CERTAINLY not higher than the winning bidder has decided to pay, now is it.

Personally i believe the reason we see so much grousing on the boards is because of the culture the boards develope and the type of people they attract. The boards are a subcommunity of the bidding public as a whole, it's a chicken and the egg question, are intelligent bidders attracted to the boards or do the boards make intelligent bidders.

Just a few three martini thoughts from me.

g'night.

Thanks jackconrad........I'll take that as a compliment, whether it's intended to be so or not.........and congrats to djheater.....it's rare that I meet someone so skilled at "bar talk" but my hats off to'em; great point!... 🙂 (hope sometime in the future that we might can share a cigar and a drink; I'd like that)

I still maintain that there is no "too high" bid, if the bidder wants the lot and assesses that it is worth it to him to submit his maximum (winning) bid to get it.

Exactly! I've seen items go for alot more than I'm willing to pay, but sometimes you may find yourself bidding against someone from Ca, or Ma, or Md, or NY, where the taxes make anything charged on CI/Cbid seem dirt cheap! Well, they mostly ARE! I have paid almost retail for stuff that I just never see around here locally, but I refuse to bid over about %75 of CI retail on most items unless I want them really bad. That's my personal limit, and I often get my auctions at %25-50 of retail, so you don't hear me complaining!

I still LOVE this place!! Even on the weekend, I still got some totally smokin' deals on some sticks I've wanted to try: 5 pk Ramone Allones and 5 pk Astral TVS for $17 total. CI retail is $35. Local prices: fuggetaboutit!
