Does anyone know of a source for good larg capacity Humidor plans? I'm interested in building a large Humi (about the size of a Verona, but don't care for the styling of that one). I'm thinking about using cabinet grad plywood, and spanish cedar planking to line it. An Active humidification system, and both bulk/box storage, and trays/drawers to store singles. Possibly a small section to access my ready stash, without throwing the RH of the whole system out of kilter. Someting like a china hutch with definite humi features. Can the Wood "breathe" through an oil finish? Or is there something else I should use? I hope I can get some insights on this before I start, because I don't want to get halfway through it, and find I definitely should have done something differently! Thanks all!

In my opinion the plywood will probably make the humidor smell like the glue that holds the plys together.

here's two pennies worth..
When i put cedar on the walls of my cooler i used a type of woodglue that when dried it is waterproof.
and i havent had any problem with any type of oder or aroma of glue. it seems to be fine and dandy.....i can't recall the brand name but it should be at a home improvement store ! 🙂

just a side note Clive might not get to respond right away - last email I got from him said something about the system might be going down - he said email - so I don't know if it was just email or the whole kit and kaboodle - so he will get back to this thread and any email when he can 🙂

SP should be an excellent resource..........I've seen pictures of his work and it is outstanding. I've thought about the same thing but don't believe I have the innate carpentry/cabintry skill to do it, not to mention the tools or an appropriate workplace. Would appreciate you keeping us/me posted as to progress.

1- it was the whole kit and kaboodle! they lost the A/Cs that keep the servers cool, and they shut ADP down to keep the system from crashing due to thermal problems.

2- bnteri, I would, but you left out your email!

3- SP- Email sent! and thanks! I've seen pics of your work! This will be a bit larger if I ever get it off the ground!

4- I'll be happy to keep everybody informed of the progress and occaisionally post pics, if I can get out of the conceptual stage!

5- Where are all these knowledgeable BOTL who were griping that there isn't enough cigar and related stuff on the cigar and related board???

I'm nearing that stage with two 3CuFt Sweaterdors already! That's the inspiration for my project!

are you building it into the walls? or stand alone? If you build it into the walls, don't forget to double insulate it...to regulate the temp.

I'm in an Apt right now, so free standing. When I can get a house, I plan on using a closet for a walk in humi! 🙂

OKAY! I guess I've started collecting materials. I'm trying to get a large quantity of oasis foam to put in an active humidification system.
I'm thinking about a duct running from the bottom to the top, with a large oasis charged with 50/50 located in the bottom, so if if were to leak, it wouldn't ruin the cigars. with a fan, say from a computer, to force circulate the air. Mt next step will be to lay out the cabinet and see how many sheets of cabinet plywood I'll need, and how much of that will need to be covered in 1/16" spanish cedar. Then, I'll start buying the lumber. When I have enough to start, I'll go to the base hobby shop, and begin cutting.

I may have to start a website somewhere, and link to it to post drawings and diagrams until I get something going to start taking pictures of.
