I have noticed that a couple of bidders here put in for ALL the lot on a cigar,5 pack etc.. and they usually end up with 1 or none of the bid on item..This is costing us more and it seems that the persons doing this are really after 1 or 2 of whatever is being offered (1 of 5,6,7 etc..)..Why are you doing this ???

I agree with BigBro, as there are bidders who will attempt to get the entire lot set an Auto Bid and hope to end up with one of the lot and they just drive the prices up on the cigars! Gonz must love these guys and gals. I am not bidding for a while and still watch the lots I would be intersted in buying! For example, Sinatra My Way, there is a current bid in for all 5 of the offered boxes. Watch and see where that one ends up! Charlie

I call it simply aggressive intelligent bidding ... but sometimes I do wonder if the person bidding is a 'shill'. Most of the folks who bid like that are retailers trying to get them below factory wholesale. I've been bidding at online auctions for many years on computer components (not just cigars) and sometimes you have to take that strategy just to get the one you want. It keeps the lightweights out of the game. Hey ... that's what auctions are all about ... if you want to play, (sometimes) you have to pay ...

i usually bid for 3 on a 5 lot auction and leave some for someone else. with the shipping cost for the first 5 pack, it is sensible to bid on other 5 packs to amortize the shipping cost. sorry i missed chairman vi and his "i can bitch about anybody or anything" i'm on vacation and missed all the fun.

it makes sense for some people to do this. They would buy all five boxes if they got it at a certain price. I would buy five boxes of puros indios for $20 each. They seldom end up winning all five for at a certain price, and at a highter price they don't want all five, maybe then they will enter a new bid to get two boxes. And logically if you think about it, it really has no effect on the final price of the lot, especially if they are outbid, their bid becomes irrelevant. They would be better off in fact not bidding on the lot until the auction is near closing, for if they bid early, other bidders all week will be pecking away at it driving up the price, if they wait, and the bidding is still low enough worthy to buy five boxes, then do it.

Hmmmmm, Well I can't really disagree on the stratergys..But it does seem there is 1 or 2 bidders who will bid on entire groupings right at the opening and then never bid on them again even if the price is low (as stated as example above,20$ for a box of PI's)which leads me to believe they are "Straws" and are getting the $$ up on lots that might go for lower$$..

BigBro - Of course I jump in early and bid on all lots, but only go up to about $7 to $10 on boxes or even less. I do it to advertise my obnoxious comments about the products or whatever else I please.

Of course, if there is a problem, let me know directly on the VI BB and we will work it out. I have an open invitation to all VI to share in any bid I "win" (pay for).

They're coming to take you away, HA HA. Anyway... some of the "issue" is the system designed by CB. I often would like to win several or all of a lot if the price were at one low level, but once that level is exceeded, I still may want 1 or 2 from the lot at a higher price. If the system allowed me to bid one price for, say, a single 5 pack but also bid another (lower) value for 4 5-packs, then I would do it. The only current alternative is to bid low on all or several items in a lot, then re-bid if necessary on a single item once your threshold is broken. Now that I've confused myself, I'm going to bed.

So, after all Bigbro, in reality you're out to kick your own ass here! I'm on CB to get cheap smokes, not to challenge other bidders or get challenged by "scam bidders" pulling pranks and who really don't want the lot they're bidding on. Noone - absolutely noone - gets all items of any lot by bidding extremely cheap. All they do is (sticking their head up their own ass) cranking up the bids, making deals dearer than they might have been. Bidding cheap on many/all items of a lot only makes winners/everyone pay more than they might have needed. End of story!

Sorry Hansen, but it's called an auction and if I can get them for my price, then good for me...If someone is willing to pay more than I am, then good for them!

Hansen, No, What I should have written is before I learned better I did bid on whole lots.. It is NOT something I do currently and ONLY bid on what I really want since it makes it hard for and costs others more $$ to get a box/5pack/merchandise ...It dosen't mean I wont bid on more then one ,but it does mean I WILL NOT try to hog da whole side of beef!!! I always try to keep in mind that there are others who want something for thier collection and I don't think one less box of a gar is going to kill me.. I think having 1500 + gars is enough for most peoples lifetimes .Ewe know?
Rookie, Thats MR oink to you!LOL!!
