a nice quality, American-made, long leaf cigar? I've seen some cigars with a Civil War theme, but I'm not sure they were totally comprised of American tobacco. Any ideas?

BS -- only one i can think of (and i may be way off) is the Muniemaker, which is an all CT-tobacco puro. it's a machine-made, though. while i personally didn't care for the taste at all, it's NOT too badly made (burned very well; didn't fall apart), is ALL natural tobac (none of that homogenized crap), and there are guys who really do love these as much as they love premiums.

if you're interested, i'll be glad to send you the two i have left when i send your thank-you package out to ya. 🙂

WELCOME BACK, KOTTER! What a coincidence, I just shot you an e-mail!

I would LOVE a sample of that cigar. I'm not a pinky in the air, long- leaf snob. It's just that I hate getting bits of the leaf in my mouth when I'm doing yard work.

Keep in touch, bro.

Kentucky Black Gold is made in northern Kentucky from Burley tobacco in cigarillo (fat cigarette) and panatella sizes. I would be glad to send you a package of these if you want to try them. My email is

I believe the Powderkeg brand of cigars are a CT. puro

Topper also makes US, all leaf cigars (alas, also machine rolled). I think the Battleground (and Powderkeg)cigars are rolled offshore.

Appreciate that Marty & thanks for the input guys.

I would like to buy American- especially since I blow so much $$$ on cigars. Wonder why some of our warmer climes (Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam...) aren't known for quality cigars? I guess there's more money in White Owls, King Edwards, Phillies, etc.

By "American made" do you mean simply rolled in America or with all American tobacco?

Most brands from the island nations use tobaccos from other countries, including real CT wrappers.

And if you simply are looking for long filler cigars hand rolled in America, then do a google search and include your local area.

There are several shops in my area that make their own smokes. And there is a company in Connecticut that "mass produces" their own botique cigars.

I visited their booth at a county fair and have to admit the cigar was very good, albeit over priced.

I don't remember the name of the company, but it was very generic, such as "Connecticut Cigar" or something like that.

tail: is that CT company Muniemaker, or is there another one?

Tailgater, I meant tobacco solely from the states. What did early Americans (Grant, etc.) smoke? Did they usually import habanos/havanas from Cuba & other Latin American countries?

Tony, per your article, I believe that Twain smoked some Cubans and later settled for cigars from Pittsburgh...? Very good reviews by the way. Better start using a toothpick or a pipe so you don't burn your fingers.

To think that I'm writing these posts between client calls. If they only knew where my priorities lie...

Okay, okay. I sent bloody spaniard a sample pack of Kentucky-made cigars last week and in return he sends me a GIANT package of smokes I've always wanted to try but hadn't bought yet. Somehow this seems wrong. Nice, but wrong.

Thank you, bloody spaniard!

You guys ALWAYS exaggerate. Give the gringo a couple of Garcia y Vegas... Besides, we're only on this earth for a short time. I'm trying to score brownie points with the man upstairs. Kinda like buying indulgences.

Now, back to my Absolut & Sniff Doggy Poop cd.
