If you have nothing else to go on, try other cigars that have the same type wrapper. Don't buy entire boxes of unknowns, just singles or 5-packs.
If you talk nice to folks around here, and put with their ribbing, they'll send/trade you singles to try. Everybody seems to joke about cigar preferences, but then they'll vehemently defend your right to smoke them.
They're _all_ "sanity challenged".
