every so often, when i lite my first cigar of the day, the one i left last night in the ashtray, it doesn't taste as good as it did the night before.

perhaps i need to start with a new cigar.

Though not recommended with any cigar, sometimes it's unavoidable. IF you really are lighting up half smoked stogies, just make sure you PURGE the cigar before you let it rest. Before you set it aside, ash the cigar well, roll off any ash to the ember face, then blow gently and sustained through the cigar until you get no smoke, to purge smoke and vapors from the interior of the cigar. When you set the cigar down let it rest with the foot even with or higher than the cap, not foot down, this will allow the heat, and any additional smoke generated while dying out, to escape and not accumulate within the remaining cigar. When you re-light the flavor profile should return, although it will NEVER be as good as the original smoke, this should insure a more pleasurable return to an abandoned or interrupted cigar.

I like to smoke cigars on the way home from my weekly road trips. I picked one up the other day that I had pitched as I pulled into the driveway. I realized in the daylight it was only 3/4 smoked, and that red squirrel had no damned business chewing on something I paid for.

Don't know if it was the 2 weeks of rain and snow, the road salt, the clay mud, or the squirrel spit ... but I, too, noticed the flavor profile was ever so slightly altered.

Snow, I too had a similar experience, except mine had been in the back pocket of my jeans for about a month. The puro had a tight draw & smelled like ass, but I wasn't about to waste a good 75 cent ceegar.

So, I gave it to an acquaintance of mine, and he put it in his "cigar saver". When he later smoked it, he told me that it brought back fond memories of a stogie he had nubbed by Lake Titicaca.

Let that be a lesson to you Rick. I think it was Liberace who said , one man's ass could be another man's treasure.

Unfortunately, Snow, there are no winners in tragic cigar stories like ours. I hope that Rick is ok.
