I have heard the use of a dry box to help your stoagie's sit for a day or two between the humi and smoking. Can someone explain this to me? What do ya'll use as a dry box in your place?

Question I never thought to ask

I use a small wooden humidor without any humidifier

Currently my ambient indoor humidity is about 55% [don't want my cigars ever to get much drier than that]

I store long term at 70-75%, try to have those cigars that smoke better at 65% in an appropriate environment

I first began using dry boxes when I was getting a few cigars shipped too wet by the manufacturer

Now mostly a waystation between longterm & the ready to go boxes

Why not just keep your storage at 65% and avoid any chance of mold (I get nervous at anything over 70%) and it makes a spur of the moment decision to smoke a ________ easier to deal with. 65% RH will age your gars just fine!

All 'dry box' means ... is set the cigar out for awhile ...

"Set the cigar out for a while?"

Probably no big deal, even in situations where the ambient relative humidity is 100% or 0%, if short term

I'm not obsessive, but if I lived in the desert or in a rainforest, I wouldn't chance it {;-/}}

Placing a cigar out for a few hours, or even in the morning for the evening smoke ... is not going to hurt it.

I've done it many times on cigars that were too damp ... and it didn't hurt them in the slightest. It just brought them down to a where they would smoke without a problem ... and I live in a pretty hot and dry climate during the summer months.

Try it once ... you'll see!

I live in the high desert of socal. Relative humidity is usually about 20% on a good day and it isn't unusual to see the temp hover around 90-100 degrees all summer. It takes a lot of TLC to keep my smokes where they should be. But my 'dors hover between 65-70% RH and I just grab 'em out the box and light 'em. Haven't had a problem yet.
