Last night I went to a local (unnamed) shop to buy an Opus X and a Diamond Crown Maximus. I was told first that I don't like the Opus X. I assured the clerk I did and he told me again I didn't. He then told me they're bad and that they use ligero. He explained that ligero is very toxic and would make me sick to smoke one. Huh...

I tried to switch to the Diamond Crown and he explained that DC is EXACTLY the same cigar as Don Carlos and Ashton. He clarified they all have the SAME fillers, binder and wrapper. I tried to explain the difference (at least) in wrappers, but he told me that sumatra, shade and cameroon wrappers are all the same and they're really rosado. But they all taste the same. Huh x2....

Then he went to explain that Punch and Excalibur are also EXACTLY the same (again, same fillers, binder, wrapper and taste). I had to leave at this point for fear I might strike him at any moment. Haha.

So what did I learn? One possibility is that people can really be stupid, but I already know that from my job. According to my tastes I don't exactly believe ANYTHING he told me about the cigars. So maybe I learned nothing. Ahh, or did I learn not to go there anymore? Yea, that's it. Talk about an interesting retail sales tactic, tell the customer what they want ISN'T what they want!!

I won't mention the name of the store or where it is, just thought you'd enjoy hearing this. Quite entertaining. And no slimboli, I am NOT disparaging the store or the individual, just relaying an interesting and comical event.

That has happened to most of us. An example of sell what you have, not what you don't.

Sounds like the sales clerk was a used car sales person.

Sure, I agree, this would make sense. BUT... They didn't have Ashton, Ashton VSG, Don Carlos, any Diamond Crown or Opus X. I'm really not sure what if anything he was trying to sell me.

When I bought a car years ago the salesman showed me the 'child seat' in the back seat. He folded down the armrest and told me that was the child seat. I commented that there was no way to hold the child in. He angrily told me you just shove the child or baby in really hard so they don't move. Stupid me...

Man I hate that...I hate when some tobacconists Jamoke that doesnt know me from Slimboli tries to tell/recommend/insist that I would like this smoke or that smoke. I just say, yeah uh huh, really? Then grab what I want and tell them to ring it up. I frequent a certain shop because he will hand me a freebie stick of something he thinks I might like and we go from there. He is usually off too, but at least I dont have to pay for it.

Are you sure you weren't talking to John Kerry? This sounds EXACTLY like something he would say!

Lmao Robby, good point!

I didn't want to talk with him any more, otherwise the cello would have been really amusing I'm sure.
