Ya gotta love Smarty Jones He looked like a triple crown winner to me in da Derby. Im gonna box im with Eddington and Maybye Water Cannon( local horses on a streak often do well in this race}. Who do ya'll like ?

I was at the Derby and I think that the general feeling (as indicated by the odds) was that there really isn't a clear favorite. Obviously, Smarty Jones is going to be the Preakness favorite, but it is not going to be easy to pick Place and Show horses. Is it going to rain? The group I was with on Derby day pooled our money and we Trifecta Boxed the top eight horses and won the Trifecta. The same strategy may work for the Preakness. Just be forewarned that it will cost you ~$380 for a $2 ticket. Have fun if you are going to the track. Take a lot of smokes!!

when i watched the race over and over, i finally noticed smarty jones, just as he released a sudden burst of energy. if you watch it several times, you can see the horse shift gears and start his kick for home.

i'm not a horse racing fan, but i had read somewhere that at the end of the race the horses that are not first have run out of oxygen and that is why the winner is the winner. toby read that the autopsy on sea biscuit showed an extra large heart, more capable of delivering oxygen rich blood to the muscles.

smarty jones looked like he was simply running until it became time to sprint home. amazing animal.
