Iraq's new Prime Minister Allawi held a news conference on Tuesday. During that news conference he switched to English to say "I would like to thank the coalition, led by the United States, for the sacrifices they have provided in the process of the liberation of Iraq."

Then President Bush had a news conference in Washington. Three times during that conference Bush said that he appreciated Allawi's words of thanks to the American people. As of Wednesday evening, not one major American newspaper had reported Allawi's remarks. NOT ONE! The only thing you could find was a story in the New York Times reporting that a Bush spokesman had said that Allawi had issued those remarks.

The Times was at the Allawi press conference .. why didn't they report the expression of gratitude? Could it be that when the new Prime Minister of Iraq thanks the people of the United States for their sacrifices in the liberation of his country, that story helps George Bush? I bet that if Allawi had made some negative comments about the American presence in Iraq that would have made the Times front page. Ditto for the Washington Post, LA Times, Boston Globe, USAToday.

It's the template. You don't have to actually lie in writing your stories. Just follow the stories. If the story would help George Bush, bury it. If the story would hurt George Bush ... run it until the presses melt down.

Man I get sick of hearing from the right about the liberal media bias. You've got Rush and Hannity and Savage and Fox and the Washington Times and the "vast right wing conspiracy". Get something new to whine about. Is the media biased ? Who cares. if you believe the media has a liberal bias you don't pay any attention to it anyway. Give it a rest!!!!! I cut and pasted this remark from the "FoxNews" Thread. It applies here as well.
I don't watch much TV, it rots the brain. I watch news occasionaly. I have noticed a definite Bias towards the right. Being conservative, it doesn't bother me too much. I have also noticed a bias to the left, with CNN. But if you want fair and balenced news??? There is NO SOURCE, that just gives you the news, without their own bias mixed into the spin. I have learned that you must check the "news" on all sources, and try and filter the spin.

Exactly on point. CNN has their "slant" on the news, FOX has theirs, etc, etc. Each of us has to listen to as many sources as we want or need and then use our own intellect to decide what we believe.

I do check Drudge and will attest to the variety of links but it is just one of hundreds of places to get stories and opinions.

CBN is Christian Broadcasting Network. Quite frankly I do not consider religious affiliate news sources as credible sources of news outside of religious news. I just think the process of becoming informed of news events and practicing religion are two things that shouldn't have too much cross-over. Don't get me wrong.. I read the Saturday religion section in my newspaper every week, even though most of the time the perspectives are coming outside my religion. But my news, politics, sports and entertainment information doesn't need to be filtered through any religious organization.

Don't get me wrong, Hog. It's a free country and I have no problem if you want to go to CBN. For me news coming from there is too often Christian opinion mixed up with news stories that I'd rather formulate my own opinion on. I don't need to be subtly influenced with subliminal religious opinion news. I'd rather read multiple sources and think for myself.

I really hope you consider more sources for your information, I'd respect your opinion as a conservative a lot more.

primarily, though, i read news from the AP, reuter's &c. straight from their site.

You pride yourselves on your intellect, but you do unspeakable damage to the perception of the same by continuing to say that conservatives are "whining" by requesting balance in news reporting. I learnt how to sipher through the BS to get to the real meat of the issue... not take the first quotes from so and so who leans so far south or north they gotta wear a parka... and then run with their bias BS as it being Facts not their Bias Fiction...

Religion shouldn't have much to do with the news. thats why I object to CBN on principle and as far as the practice of my religion, it is private and personal and I am involved and devoted to it. Religion mixing with non-religious news and religion mixing with politics is anti-Constitutional and anti-American in my eyes and that's my patriotic opinion!!

I know you may disagree but you might as well understand that this is a real problem liberals have with neo-cons and it isn't going away as long as neo-cons make continued efforts to destroy the US Constitution's mandated separation of church and state. CBN's role in this anti-constitutional effort is well known.

I think most of us are in total agreement that bias exists. My opinion is that listening to more sources is better. Last night I watched or listened to about 90 minutes of right wing bias (Fox, Laura Ingraham on radio) and 2 hours of what I would term centrist or unbiased (Cspan and middle of the road traditional conservative (not-Neo con) local radio guy) and maybe an hour of the liberal stuff (A local radio guy). I also watched Aaron Brown of CNN interview Laura Ingraham talking about Reagan for 10 minutes (what kind of bias do you call that?? communists interviewing a neo-con talking about a more traditional conservative).

The bias issue is raised a lot more on the right but in all honesty, I see far more sources of right-wing bias that left wing. Anyway I still advocate that the best way to beat bias is to view news from all biases.. AND CSPAN!!!!!!

Also, regarding CSPAN, I used to watch it regularly and I recall them instituting a "Liberal" call in line on their talk shows because they were getting so many concervative calls. How is this unbias? Hey, too many concervatives are calling and expressing opinions on our "open" line and not enough libs, we have to fix that!!

I know this is unrelated to this thread but since bd brought it up the constitution calls for separation of church and state. That is it. This does NOT mean God should be taken out of everything. It means that the government can not mandate a religion like they did in England when our forefathers left that country. They came here for religious freedom NOT freeedom from religion. The men who wrote our constituion were religious men. Why do you think so many things from the time preiod reference God? I remember saying small prayers in school whne I was a child. They were nondenominational and should NEVER have been forced out of the schools. I am NOT a religious nut and distance myself big time from the religious right.

Sorry but this country was founded on belief in God and I do not understand why you ultralibs can not accept that.
