It's all about the genetic strand and 'your' taste buds. I've smoked these; they are not bad at all. Well made, even burn, nice leathery taste. I wouldn't spend more than a 50 spot for them tho.....there are better buys imo for the 50.

I agree with Scottbushey. The Tapa Negras I've had were a decent light-to-medium bodied smoke with good construction and burn. They look kind of cool with the Tapa Negra wrapper and ponytail tie and my generally non-cigar smoking buddies at my tailgate parties seam to like them. They can usually be had at a little more than a buck a stick. The boxes that they come in are world class (like little treasure chests with polished wood and black tops) and I have 2 of them on top of my big humidor to keep lighters, cutters, and the like in.

I've never heard anything good about Mantequilla, TN or otherwise, but never anything specific (other than tight draw maybe). Someone gifted me a natural torpedo a few herfs ago, and it was rather good. The burn was great, the draw was fine, and the flavor was middle of the road tobacco (sort of like a Hoyo in an old school standard kind of way). I haven't had the Tapa Negra, but my somewhat oblique experience would lead me to think they are at least worth sampling, if not exactly jumping on a box right away.

Fragile wrappers, many plugged per box, lacking in flavor. These are among the worst cigars that Triki Bermejo has ever produced at NATSA. You'd be better served by buying a box of Toppers.

I would echo many of the comments on this thread... poor construction, lousy taste, tight draws, etc...

But, it is a cool box... (just remember you can't smoke the box)

My experience has been somewhat different (individual taste, and all that, I guess). I've found them to be a fairly smooth smoke, although a little milder than I normally like. One observation: They improved significantly, IMO, with about 4-6 months aging on them. They're not the first cigar I'd reach for but I do like them on an occasional basis. BTW, don't know about the box as I bid on a partial box on another site just to be able to sample them, and they were shipped i a ziploc bag. Am undecided yet as to whether I like them well enough to re-purchase. Just my thoughts..........

I've had a few boxes of these. Light and mild. Perfect for yard work. The maduro tip is great for chewing on. I've never had a problem with any of them either.

I'm with Doug. I haven't had the Tapa Negras but have had several of the Mantequilla line... boxes are great. I've never had a problem with draw (I keep my humi at 65% and rarely have draw problems with any cigars), the cigars have burned evenly, had a clean and sweet taste (aka bland and mild) and are great yard work sticks. They are well worth the $1 I paid for them.

I know this post is long dead, but just saw it and wanted to provide my two cents. I got a box of these a while ago, maybe 7-8 years ago and from what I remember they were great. Good construction, especially the two kinds of wrapper. No issues with draw. Taste was wonderful. The one incident I remember was that I was out golfing and smoking one of these. I turned to my buddy and told him, "wow this stick is like butter". I mean it really had hints of butter, like popcorn. Some time goes by and I learn that Mantequilla is Spanish for butter. There you have it.
