MoveOn Ads OK; Swift Boat Ads Not OK, Kerry Campaign Says

(CNSNews.com) - The Bush campaign has suggested that Sen. John Kerry join President Bush in calling off the dogs -- those "shadowy" 527 groups that run ads for and against Bush and Kerry.

The liberal group MoveOn.org and the anti-Kerry group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are both 527s, named after a section of the tax code.

But on Friday, a spokeswoman for the Kerry campaign backed away from the suggestion. She said what MoveOn.org is doing is perfectly fine, while what the Swift Boat Veterans are doing is "dishonest" and "dishonorable."

Debra Deshong of the Kerry campaign told Fox News there's a difference between MoveOn.org and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth: "MoveOn.org is an independent organization that existed well before the Kerry campaign," she said, whereas Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "is not an independent group."

Deshong invoked Friday's New York Times article as proof: "And in today's New York Times, it details exactly all the ties this group (Swift Boat Veterans for Truth) has to the Bush White House."

Deshong condemned Bush for not telling Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to stop running their ad. (Swift Boats say it wouldn't matter what Bush said -- see related story)

"Again, we (the Kerry campaign) have nothing to do with these independent ads, like MoveOn.org. That is an independent organization that existed well before the Kerry campaign. They have every right to be running what they are under the campaign finance laws." According to Deshong, "This is about the Swift Boat Vets that are running dishonorable ads that Bush refuses to condemn."

"The fact is, not only has this president had over $62 million dollars spent attacking him by these shadowy groups, but let's not forget about Michael Moore's movie," said Bush campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Millerwise, also speaking on Fox News. She noted that for weeks, Americans could "hardly turn on a TV" without seeing Michael Moore "launch unbelievable attacks on this president."

Millerwise said the Bush campaign would rather focus on the major issues -- including Sen. Kerry's spotty attendance at Senate Intelligence Committee hearings.

Hog, in other posts I haven't even remembered Moores "documentary" (that's torturing the definition of that word beyond belief!) not only providing free anti-Bush propaganda, but also generating money that I'm sure Moore has donated part of to organizations like moveon.com, but then, these people aren't "organized", don't know each other, or have anything else to do with each other! OH yeah! the moveon.org existed before Kerry's candidacy, but don't you know that the DNC knew that WHOEVER they picked would reap the benefits of all the Bush-bashing! Without knowing who would be picked to run, they knew who they would be running against! I wonder if there's a way to trace whether Heinz-Kerry contributed to moveon, and if so, how much?

Don't be so sure Moore has donated much to anyone, except the maker of Twinkies.

The phoney FLint average guy is from a wealthier suburb of Flint. Anyway, didn't that waterbed with a head get his start as a stalker, "Roger and Me"?

to be honest, i've not seen a single moveon ad; i have seen the swift boat ad, though, and it is pretty deplorable.

that said, here's the deal -- both MO and SBVFT, if they ARE independent of the candidates' finances, *are* free to say whatever they want to say. i don't like the message, i can (and do) hit mute or change the channel.

as for the question of why kerry doesn't sue them, though, hog -- why doesn't bush due moveon? 😉

Don't turn it down (Mute) or to a different station.. these men who fought for what Kerry Took Away in 1971 have a right to be heard... why turn your head to what they have to say.. but gobble up every ounce of Kerry's BS??

The new Swift Boat Veterans for Truth advertisement accuses Kerry of betraying his fellow Vietnam veterans and the U.S.

Kerry is pictured during his testimony to the Congress after he returned from Vietnam, and quotes of what he said appear on the screen, accompanied by Kerry's voice. Various former POWs recount how they believe Kerry's conduct in criticizing the war hurt them and America:

KERRY: "They personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads ..."

JOE PONDER (wounded 1968): The accusations that John Kerry made against the veterans who served in Vietnam were just devastating ..."

KERRY: "... randomly shot at civilians ..."

PONDER: "... more than any physical wounds I had."

KERRY: "... cut off limbs, blown up bodies ..."

KEN CORDIER (former POW): "That was part of the torture, that you had to sign a statement that you committed war crimes."

KERRY: "... razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan ..."

PAUL GALANTI (former POW): John Kerry gave the enemy for free what I and my comrades in the prison camps in North Vietnam took torture to avoid saying."

KERRY: "... crimes committed on a day-to-day basis ..."

CORDIER: "He betrayed us in the past. How could we be loyal to him now?"

KERRY: "... ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam ..."

GALANTI: "He dishonored his country and, more importantly, the veterans he served with. He sold them out."

This is their new ad... I haven't heard it yet but I did read it...

I can recall when I was a kid.. trying to catch all the news to see my Uncle Johnny on TV.. Fav Uncle who fought in Nam.. I have two other cousins (Brothers) who fought in Nam also... but Uncle Johnny was my Fav..
I can remember seeing these protestors spitting on our American Troops as they returned home.. I can remember all the bad things they were saying at this time.. hell I think I was maybe 6 yrs old??

and now I have heard Kerry's transcipt and read it also.. and to know what I know now and been through the Military... I know how these men feel and have a right to voice their feelings True as they are by Kerry's own Mouth...

John Kerry isn't a Patriot or a Saint... he's a Traitor and should be run out of the Country!!!!
