I got this in the mail yesterday,

it is a law firm who sent this out to Vioxx users...

just last week they announced the banning of the drug from users...

Yea I used it... had been using it for about 10-11 months my doctor even increased a dosage for it... I felt I had possible complications but I also smoke and have been doing quite a bit more of that then I should of...

My question or rant there of... I listened to the last debate... and the next thing I know I get something like this as a flyer in the mail...

first off, who is giving out my medical information???

secondly, this is why premiums on healthcare have hit the roof.. and this is why the CDC and FDA have had to raise the roof on medications etc... Trial Lawyers wanting to snagg up all they can...

Russ, my wife was taking Vioxx untill a friend that was also taking it suffered a stroke and the doctors attributed it to the Vioxx. She ditched her prescription 2 days before it was removed from the market. We haven't received any such flyer but my wife feels better after not taking the Vioxx, thank goodness.

I'm not feeling better.. the vioxx was actually helping... but looking into alternative Herbs....

It's just the fact that someone knows the medications I'm taking? and where is it this information is given out...

I'm not about to jump into a lawsuit to make the costs go up...


I'm glad this product is removed from causing damage but their saying it's possibly this CO @ inhibitor that could be the causes.. so the other products are not safe either in my book...

You could always switch to Celebrex. It's the same class of pain killer without the potential heart complications.

I take an COX2 inhibitor called Bextra. It has the same pharmacological activity as Vioxx, but with none of the side effects caused by Vioxx side that I've heard, at least yet. I also took Vioxx and Celebrex, but have found that, for me at least, Bextra seems a bit easier on the stomach, though any of these formulations will cause some stomach upset.

You are assuming that it was sent to you becasue you used Vioxx. This may not be a targeted mailing. If it is, it might be gleaned form a public source. Like the Viox company maybe?

I was prescribed it for shoulder pain, but my wife's Dr. friend told her not to let me take it, so I never did.
Makes you wonder, if it was so bad, why was it ever allowed in the pharmacy in the first place... ?

Or maybe this is a law firm employed by Vioxx to settle with you on the cheap and therefore kep you away from the evil unwashed plaintiff's bar?

I've signed up on Medscape and MSN Med news... been their for awhile now...

they are reporting now that any COX2 inhibitor could be a cause for what Vioxx was pulled for and their doing studies on this now....

Mrs. Hog has been going through the Herbs part studying this as a different route.. I don't know what it is she's giving me but it's all natural and it helps... sometimes I'll miss a dose and I can tell...

I don't know why or who got the information on me taking this medication but it just ticked me off that this information is available to anyone who wants it... I know we've I have talked on here about which meds I've taken before on different topics... But I don't think someone is putting all this together from a Forum???

I took vioxx when I re-injured my knee. The doc gave it to me and said when I finished it that was all I would get. It worked like a charm and I stopped taking it after 10 days.

The only (or one of the main) differences between aspirin, ibufrofen, and COX2 inhibitors is that aspirin and ibuprofen inhibit both the COX1 and COX2 enzymes, which are involved in the body's natural inflammation mechanisms, and which also suppress stomach acid. Aspirin and Ibufrofen can lead to serious stomach problems if taken regularly over the long term. The miracle about COX 2 specific inhibitors, like Vioxx, Bextra, etc., is that they suppress COX2 but not COX1, which allows for better stomach acid control, and hence more intense longer term use; a blessing to those who need it, like me. I busted up my ankle bad 20 years ago, and without anti-inflammatory, I'm in bad shape. The COX 2 inhibitors are so much help, that if they did cause some other side effect, it's a toss up. Many drugs are that way; they're like chemotherapy: you take just enough of the poison to keep from killing you, but so that it alleviates something else. We often learn about drugs the hard way, like thalidomide (which is back in use for certain ailments). Heck, they even say cigars are bad for you, you just can't win. It's worth repeating though, if you were taking Vioxx, and need anti-inflammatory for whatever reason, Bextra seems to be a reliable alternative, although the whole lot may end up having the same consequences as Vioxx after further studies.

My wife was prescribed Bextra by The Cleveland Clinic for discs that are degenerating in her back. Works very well.

because our address is listed as a business, we get stuff like that all the time. everything from sue somebody, grow bigger, land deals.

it's no more then a mass mail out to a list of address the mailer has purchased. you could have shown up on a list where you bought a shirt, or subscribed to a magazine.

those funky adds for nose hair clippers for a buck is simply to build a list of people that buy from ads in order to sell the list of potential customers. anything better then a 3% response is considered great in that business enviornment.

Lo and behold, the day after I recommend Bextra as an alternative for Vioxx, an article appears in the paper next day that possibly Bextra too can increase heart attack rates in those with heart problems. Moreover, it turns out Bextra is really just Celebrex, only the time release formula. I believe all the NSAIDs (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs)we've been hitting on here are basically variations on the same formula. They do work like gang-busters for reducing inflammation, but apparently cause problems for those with bad tickers. Me, nor anyone else in my family have had any heart problems I know of, so I'll continue eating Bextra like MM's. If you have heart problemos, consult thine Dr. (probably shouldn't be smoking cigars either!! just kidding).

I took Celebrex for almost 2 years until last October when my blood count droped to 7 and I wound up in the hospital for almost a week with transfusions of four pints of blood. I just stoped taking it on my own. I have been in a lot of pain but I'm too scared to start up agasin. Low and behold during the week I saw a news story that they are stufdying Celebrex for possibly causing internal bleeding. Go figure. I'm waiting for my Doc to come up with a better solution.

Man, that reminds me of the first time I took Viagra! It took only fifteen minutes till I got soo exited I had chest pain. Good thing my wife came home and found me.
