I enjoyed my first PAM this weekend. The wife and I went out to celebrate 10 years of marriage Friday night. We went to a very nice restaurant (Sambuca) in Dallas and went down the street to a sports bar for drinks after. That is when I lit the PAM. It was the smoothest cigar I've ever had. The taste was awesome and the draw was perfect. This is the first cigar I've smoked that didn't leave a strong cigar taste in my mouth while I was smoking or after I was done. Awesome. It was almost perfect. The rest of this post is about how the night wasn't so perfect. So, if you don't want to read me griping and ranting, stop reading now. The rest of this may just piss you off.

Anyway, the wife and I are enjoying a view of some basketball games on TV at the bar while sharing the PAM and some drinks. There are some guys at a table near us that start making some rude comments about the cigar smoke coming from me. Keep in mind that this bar is very smokey with cigarette and cigar smoke. In fact, this bar sells cigars. I try to ignore it for the most part because their comments are kept to themselves. Unfortunately, there was a draft moving the air from my table to theirs. They decided they couldn't keep their comments to themselves anymore. Instead of a respectful "excuse me, but can you put out that cigar" or "could I ask you to move to a different table" I got a "hey, buddy, give us a break here." Giving him a chance to be civil, I said "What?" He then starts to gripe about the cigar smoke and accuses me of blowing into his face. I calmly explained that the draft was causing the smoke to move in that direction. He and his buddy just continued to gripe, so I suggested he step outside where the air is clearer. His buddy proceeded to recommend that I stick the cigar up my ass. At this point, I was ready to make the confrontation as ugly as they wanted it to be, and I responded with "You're welcome to try it if you like." He didn't respond though I desperately wanted him to. So, I was called and **** and other things while finishing my PAM. I wanted to hurt these so badly. If it weren't my 10th anniversary, things would have gotten much uglier regardless of their wishes. I'm a little guy and there were four guys sitting in their group, but that wasn't about to keep me from finishing my cigar with my wife that evening. I hate **** like that. I was probably going to get myself really badly hurt, but I was going to seriously injure the two guys that were giving me ****. The night was kind of ruined by these jerks. It was a special night for me and my wife, and it ended the wrong way. We left the bar soon after they did, and I wasn't able to calm down 'til the next day. I'm still pretty fired up about it.

Great cigar, great evening, bad ending. Could have been worse. Could have ended up in jail or the hospital. Either way, it was a great smoke. Thanks, John.

I suggest the following:

1. Take karate lessons so next time you kick butt.

2. Carry a taser w/ license and shock some sense in them.

3. Move from Dallas to L.A. to become a screenwriter. You've got a good story here titled:

"PAM or Die" staring Alec Baldwin.

In the time it may have taken to perform the a$$ whoopin', you may have lost the burn on that PAM. Of course a re-light would work, but it may not have been the same.

Dude - you need to calm down and find something more important to get all fired up about, like world hunger or the war....

My point was meant to reinforce your decision to blow 'em off. Sometimes a very difficult thing to do.

john,

next time someone gives you **** in a disrespectful manner, do the same thing you did this time......DO NOT TAKE ANY **** FROM **** ABOUT SMOKE IN THEIR FACES WHILE THEY SIT IN AN OBVIOUS SMOKING ESTABLISHMENT. WELL DONE! i however, would have probably gone to jail for assault or worse. again, you did well.

jsd,

what would you know of war?

funny story...I don't know what I would have done, especially if It happened while I was smoking my first PAM. For you enjoyment, Here is a link to a site that has 101 ways to respond when someone asks you to put out your cigar. I'm sure it has been posted here before, but it's funny.

I have to say that those PAM's are beeeutiful. Just smoked one a little while ago while watching my Steelers win. Perfect draw, very smooth and great flavor. They are a wonderful cigar. Atleast you got to finish it. Congrats to you and your wife.

thanks, jason. as good as the cigar was, it was nothing in comparison to the reason for celebrating the evening. 10 years is almost the exception rather than the rule these days at our age. i'm 31; she's 29. yep, we were young and foolish, but we've grown up a little together. hopefully, we've also gotten a little wiser.

jsd, you're right. i should be able to just ignore things like that. i know i've got some more growing to do. i'm just glad things didn't get worse.

you know, looking back at my original post, i'm surprised you guys understood that drivel i typed. i really need to proof read my posts in the future.

Hey lofty1 ... feel free to post whatever you feel, but don't get carried away with the profanities in your posts ...

... it's not really necessary, and against CigarBids rules ... 😉

Besides, it shows a lot of class if we all do our part to keep these forums held to a higher standard than the rest ...

Now there's the classic Slim we all know....and love?

***gotta poke atcha til I can get back atcha***

I had a "could you put out your cigar" incident several months ago....

In Waco bar...college town...good lookin chicks.

Anyway...with a bud and smokin a cigar like i always do in this bar. Knockout blonde comes in and sits @ the bar about 8 feet away from my table....20 min into my cigar.

Someone taps me on the shoulder and directs me to her...she makes some uninteligible gestures, so i get up and go to her. She asks if I could put out my cigar and waves her nose like Yoko Hudson in "How to lose a guy in ten days"....I kindly respond with a simple "no"...and go back and sit down.

Hell, I wudn't gettin any from her no matter what I did...so no use in wasting a cigar!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you were able to enjoy the PAM on a great occasion, sorry you had to put up with the hassle though.

I have to say that before I started smoking cigars, I thought cigar smokers, particularly in closed environments, were the lowest form of life on earth. After all, their pastime has a profound effect on those around them. I would escalate things pretty quickly on the basis of the fact that they should have known better than to smoke around *anyone* without asking.

That said, I obviously smoke cigars now, and I have to tell you that I am WAY sensitive to non-smokers. If they complain, I move or put it out, no questions asked and no complaining. After all, clean air is the norm and if you f**k it up it is not exactly up to them to move and let you keep up the pollution.

Just my opinion.

herfman...

valid point...and not to start a rucous, but .......

clean air is not "the norm" in a smoking establishment, esp a bar or smoking section of a restaraunt, etc. I too try to be sensitive in environments that cigar smoking may be allowed but not overly present. I try to pick a place as far away from others as possible....but if it is not possible, the allowances of the law and the establishment give me enough peace of mind to enjoy my cigar

while I hope it would not infringe on others, i'm not going to refrain in such environments....i try to avoid envirnoments that may be annoying/offensive to me.....others can do the same

The PAM sounds great!

As for the other issue, I can't help but think that you had a really great opportunity to diffuse that situation before it got ugly. I would have explained that the wife and I are celebrating our tenth anniversary, I am sorry about the smoke, could my wife and I buy your table a round of drinks? If that doesn't work, offer to move to a different table and appologize again.

Most of the time, when a table is being sensative to environment, I find graciosness, compassion, and communication to be a lot more effective than the "It's me against them" approach.

The scarey part is not that you could have been hurt or embarrassed, but that you could be sued for getting into a fight, and could even be imprisoned as well. One must always try to weigh the consequences before behaving in a way that could get a person into a heap of trouble and hurt.

And to that other poster, Kate Hudson did not break up the Black Crowes any more than Yoko did the Beatles. Both of those grops were finished before the front guys got married. Those last two Crowes albums, finished before the hollywood coupling, were pretty weak. Can't blame the women for that.

First of all HAPPY ANNIVERSERY! It is not easy this day and age to keep a marriage together, especially when you spend all you money on C-Bid.

Second, this is a great reminder for why never to shoot your mouth off. I would feel so bad knowing that I was interupting someone enjoying their 10th wedding anniversary. I'm glad it didn't get violent. Next time tell them it is your anniversary and ask them to find a new table. They should have bought you a drink if they knew it was your anniversary.

Oh well, may you have many more happy years and may your next celebration be a peaceful one.

i'm with ya Danny.

in that situation, i don't think the "nice" approach woulda worked. if the guys at the table woulda been decent about it, it mighta been different, but seems they wanted to play tough by rude and obnoxious comments.

Danny letem know he wasn't gonna be pushed down, and they left it alone. its kinda like the schoolyard bully, the guy that knocks him on his can is the guy he leaves alone.

glad you got to finish that pam Danny, and hope you salvaged somethin of that anniversary night.

later daze, lance

18delta, 'preciate the offer, but i really enjoyed the smoke regardless of the unpleasant exchange. please enjoy the PAM yourself, or offer it someone that has never had the pleasure.

man, some of you guys have so much class i feel like i don't belong here. you guys are really something.
