my red 1963 Chrysler 300J. drove it 130,000 and my mechanic bought it from me.

my silver 1995 Chrysler LHS. has 56,000 miles and my kids will probably sell it when i am gone.

where is lee iococca when chrysler needs him now.

Realizing that the company would go out of business if it did not receive a significant amount of money to turn the company around, Iacocca approached the United States Congress in 1979 and asked for a loan guarantee. While some have said that Congress lent Chrysler the money, the government, in fact, only guaranteed the loans. Most observers thought this was an unprecedented move, but Iacocca pointed to the government bailouts of the airline and railroad industries, arguing that more jobs were at stake in Chrysler's possible demise. In the end, though the decision was controversial, Iacocca received the loan guarantee from the government.

The gamble seemed to pay off for the government. Chrysler settled its debt by 1983, years ahead of schedule, and the Treasury made a profit of more than $300 million on the loans.2185025.jpg

But that was when they were making cars worth buying. Look at the junk they have designed in the last few years. Maybe the cars are good but they are so ungly no one wants to buy them.

I don’t know why this concept is so hard for people to grasp...

If you cannot conduct business without the help of a benefactor, you don’t deserve to conduct business.

No one should ever be "too big to fail". Let them all crash and burn if they cannot fix themselves.

#2.....Actually, I think Chrysler is making some of the best looking cars on the market right now. They have always been at the forefront of styling. The cars are just crap.

u r correct.

when i was in the process of buying the 95 my mechanic told me to buy the best warranty for the car.

in the first year, they changed the front end, the tranny, the radio, something with the air cond.

since then it's had no problems.

Hi

There is a big difference in the cars made today than ten years ago. Chrysler has some nice products, though some will never admit it. However,I do not think Fiat and UAW ownership is the answer. The UAW and recent leadership at Chrysler are among the reasons why the company is hurting today. Is handing the company over to the asylum the answer? For example, what is going to happen when Fiat ownership wants to do something that the UAW (55% interest by last count) disagrees with? Who will run the company? Why are they running the company? Rick, I could have hoped for the same deal for Chrysler as back in Carter's day. I was actually supportive of Carter's efforts there. What Obama did is a whole other issue. It appears that he gave them just enough rope to hang themselves, took effective control, and then turned the company over to the UAW through the courts while blaming investors.Something does not pass the smell test here.
