Not really agressive metal. Wouldn't really call it metal. It's more hard rock. Not a bad band, but not "aggressive" enough for my tastes.

I'd recommend checking this out.

Went to this concert last night. Sat third row or should I say stood. Barlowgirls rocked, three sisters home schooled Barlow is there last name.

Kutless, totally cranked, awesome show, awesome music and lyrics that have true meaning. If these bands are not aggressive enough. Try Staple. I don't burn whole CD's but will do a song or two, I do respect artist copy right's. If you like there music I will buy you the CD. I dont mind supporting these bands at all.

Sevendust and my current fav Flaw

Sevendust's rifts are deap and hard with intent not just banging away at chords.

Flaw's lyrics are intense and I identify with 'em....great for my workouts.

Agree with cex that they aren't quite "aggressive" enough, but, nontheless, good.

Mudvayne, Chimaira, Dry Kill Logic and 36 Crazyfists are the only 4 CDs I've listened to within the past month. A friend and I have backstage passes to Mudvayne's Philly show in February.

Let's see. What's on my mp3 CD in my car?

Amon Amarth - Fate of Norns

Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache

Testament - The Gathering

Falconer - Falconer

Iced Earth - Horror Show

Children of Bodom - Hatecrew Deathroll

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast

AC/DC - Back in Black

Arch Enemy - Anthems of Rebellion

Putting an MP3 stereo in my car is the greatest thing I've ever done. My entire CD collection on 5 or 6 CDs.

when i lived on kelly AFB in san antonio, this guy across the street from me was a big fan of coal chamber. he played some of their stuff for me once. once. i thought, "i must be getting old or something." when i was younger, i loved iron maiden and judas priest. man, i still love some of that stuff. this coal chamber, though. yikes! that was some wild stuff. they made maiden and priest sound like air supply.

Metal has changed, drastically, and there are so many variations. Math metal, black metal, thrash, progressive, speed...the list goes on and on. Actually, it's quite ridiculous. These days, it’s hard to find bands or singers that closely resemble those of the past, in any genre. But, that’s the great thing about music. Its evolution keeps people like Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain, etc unique. (not that they were metal)

math metal? holy crap. i never thought there'd be a classification of metal i wasn't smart enough to listen to. yep, i'm gettin' old.

Math metal is interesting. It's usually pretty fast-paced and intense, and the beats are almost impossible to predict and/or move to. That is, until you memorize them.

I've never heard of Math Metal before. What are some bands?

Cexshun, I had the headbanger's ball on this past Saturday. I think I saw a video by Amon Amrath. It was called "In Search of Vikings" or something like that. Didn't like the vocals but the music riffs were very cool. Might have to download some stuff by these guys.

Things I like to listen to lately

Exodus

Testament

Overkill

In Flames

Shadow Falls

Rammstein

Killswitch Engage

Mushroomhead

Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickenson (solo stuff)

Helloween

Gamma Ray

Yngwie Malmsteen

plabonte, you have a lot of good bands in that list. In Flames is pretty good, but they seem to be headed in a bad direction with the newer stuff. I prefer Soilwork over In Flames myself for that reason, but they are very similar bands.

I like some of Rammstein's work, but some of their albums are way too techno for me. The song they did for the Vin Deisel movie was awsome and their performance in the movie kicked all that is a$$. I think it was "xXx" and the song is "Feuer Frei" if I'm not mistaken. I'd love to see these guys live!

I was unaware Amon Amarth made a music video. They're one of my favorite bands and pretty much started me on the death metal genre, and on the metal scene in general. The newest album is their best, followed by The Crusher. They are nitty gritty death metal at it's finest. If you prefer a more melodic death metal, their album "Versus the World" was also excellent. Not my favorite because it lacks the raw aggression of The Crusher and/or Fate of Norns(the newest album), but still very good.

Helloween and Gamma Ray are classics in the Power Metal genre. You'd probably also like Sonata Artica if you like them. For those who don't know, Power Metal is basically classic 80s metal with tons of keyboard work. More or less anyway.

Best concert I've ever been to:

Goatwhore, Amon Amarth, Vader, Kreator, and Nile.

Goatwhore kind of sucked, but the other 4 bands are in my top 10 list, so I enjoyed this show very much and it was worth twice the $20 ticket price!

Yep I've heard Sonata Arctica and thought they sounded similar.

I actually like the newer In flames stuff. I like the techno flavor they add in some of there stuff (maybe why I like bands like Rammstein and Static-X). I'm not into the play as fast as you can and growl the vocals. I like the music to be at a pace where I can hear the notes. But some really fast stuff is cool too. Guess I just have to be in the right frame of mind.

I'll have to check out the other bands you mentioned. Thanks for the suggestions.

Killswitch is great, especially since Howard Jones took over the vocals. In Flames is pretty good as well, however, I can only listen to one of their albums all the way through (Soundtrack to Your Escape).

Some bands I listen to that can be classified as 'Math Metal':

Ill Nino

Dillinger Escape Plan

Nora

Between the Buried and Me

Underoath - great band

Other bands I enjoy:

Deftones

From Autumn to Ashes

Tool

Slipknot (their original stuff)

Well, if you don't like "play as fast as you can while growling", then stay FAR away from Nile. They are by far the heaviest band I've ever heard in my life and are at times too heavy for me. I think you'd really like Kreator though. They're a classic speed/thrash metal. No growling lyrics and pure thrash guitar. I have a feeling you'd love Iced Earth. Specifically check out the song "Damien" from the album "Horror Show". Their newest album, "The Glorious Burden" is a very patriotic album and features a new singer. I think it may be right up your alley.

I think you'd really like Children of Bodom also. They growl a bit, but nowhere near what other bands do. The music is simply fantastic. The keyboard dominates their music more then the guitar, which is very unique. I recommend the song "Silent Night, Bodom Night".

I'm checking out Shadows Fall and Overkill right now.

Man...am I out of the loop. Ya figger with me being a old skool Rock and Metal drummer and with a 15 year old son thats into bands like Cradle of Filth, Slipknott, Tool, Lamb of God, Slayer, I would have heard of at least a couple of these bands.

In my car now is Motorhead, Iron Maiden Piece of Mind, Accept Metal Heart, Led Zeppelin III, Black Sabbath Masters of Reality, and Supertramp believe it or not.

I guess I have been buried in this original project creating our own sound for so long I havent been listing to much new stuff. I dont care for the Cookie Monster singers at all and I do like a HINT of melody, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Beat, I think the reason is because most metal is relatively underground. The few bands you listed that your son listens to are metal bands that have emerged into mainstream. Most metal purists(elitest, i.e. pretenious) will tell you straight out that they hate the bands your son listens to just as we make fun of White Owl smokers (Slayer being the exception). But hey, I've always said if you like it, then it's good. I'm not a big fan of those bands but Cradle of Filth did make an awsome cover of Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name.

With the return of Headbanger's Ball, some of the lesser known metal bands are getting more airtime. But frankly, most metalheads avoid anything labeled MTV due to the TRL and hiphop phenomenon. On a plus side, these bands being in the underground allows me to see my favorite bands live in concert for no more then $25. Compare that to me forking out $45 +$15 parking to see AC/DC.

Metal drummers, at least modern metal, have blindingly quick feat as the music is dominated by double bass. I've always wondered, can you guys run really fast?

Hallowed be thy Name

One my favorites by Maiden or anyone. For just a flash, I can relate again. Crap, I brought Piece of Mind to work instead of Number of the Beast. Oh well, it's time for Where Eagles Dare.

I love old metal. I had nearly forgotten all about Accept. The only thing I remember from them was Balls to the Wall. Wow, that was a blast from the past for me.

Heh...I remember when Accept was underground...

I have always been a single kick drummer. In the John Bonham, Ian Pace, Clive Burr/Nikko McBrain mold. I could still play medal with one foot. But my foot is extremly fast. VIVA LA DW5000 Turbo chain drive!!!!

And I still can't run fast, unless I hop on one foot.

A lot of the new stuff is sampled.

I've always wondered, can you guys run really fast?

Now THAT is funny.

I used to be like you BeatDragon, no not an old drummer :o) I had not heard of any of these bands and was just into older stuff. But I started to get into some of the new stuff that was on the radio (Static-X, Powerman 5000, Union Underground). Sometimes there were soundtracks or compilations albums that had these bands on them so I'd get one cheap and here other stuff that was cool. I really got exposed from the MTV Headbangers ball CDs. I think there are 2 out and both are double CDs. They have new stuff like Lamb of God, Dimur Bogir (SP? These guys are wild), and In Flames as well as older stuff like Slayer and Anthrax (although newer songs by them). So I've heard a lot through that. And downloading from KAZAA LITE. Which reminds me if anyone has any good free music download sites let me know.

On a side note when I was young I heard Fast as a Shark by Accept and thought it was the fastest thing I've ever heard. First time I heard the double basses working. Very cool. Accept was an awesome band with Udo. Didn't like them without him. Not sure if I have Metal Heart. I know I have Russian Roulette, Balls to the Wall, and the one with Fast as a Shark. All cool albums.

Cookie monster vocals...I'll have to remember that. That pretty much sums up the vocals on a lot. I watched Headbangers ball and the good majority of videos had cookie monster vocals in the.
