OK, on top of a BOTL, I'm a gadget freak. Combine gadgets with computers and/or gaming consoles, and you get Logitech. I bought a Logitech Cordless PS2 controller in August. Hands down the best controller I've ever used for any system, aftermarket or OEM. And I'm not just saying that. I've been pimping out this controller to my friends since August and every person has bought one!

So, last month it started acting up and last night it completely died. Now, I could just buy another, but this runs about $45. So, I call up Logitech. This is where things get weird.

I get an english speaking American. No, not an Indian, but a person who's first language is english. I describe the problem. She begins to ask if I tried this and that. I interrupt her and inform her that I have tried all the tips on their website, and included a few of my own. She gets a part number and serial number from me. After checking her computer, she asks what address I want the replacement shipped to! What the?!?! No receipt needed? Nope. Evidentally, they check the serial number and can tell when it was shipped to the store. If it's reasonable to assume you purchased it after this shipping date and it's still within warranty, then they auto-approve it. Wow!

So, my new controller will be here in 5-10 bunsiness days. How do I ship the broken one back? I don't! They void the warrenty on the broken one, and activate the warrenty on the replacement. I keep the broken one! OK, no big deal, it's broke, but I don't have to go through the hassle of an RMA return shipping.

Now, I'm used to getting excellent customer service from the smaller businesses like CBID, my coffee supplier, etc. I've never expected customer service like this from a HUGE corporation like Logitech. I've been praising their product since I bought my first mouse from them 6 years ago. Now, I will proudly continue to praise not only their products, but the company as well!

Here's to you Logitech! This smoke is for you!

I got the same service from Black & Decker on my Space Saver coffee pot carrafe. I just gave them a couple of ID numbers and my namd and address. It took 2 months, BUT...I got a new one.

C-Bid knows this all too well:

Great service is always rewarded with return business.

I had the same experience with Intel about 3 years ago.
I bought a wireless router and two pcmcia cards from them so I could terminal service into my server from my HPC in the basement and run my cigar database (in Access) to update the inventory. One day the wireless just didn't work, tried everything including shorting the DB9 for a "factory" reset.
Called tech support, and like you, I got someone who actually spoke English as a primary language, and said I had tried this and that and the other thing too. I gave him the model number and serial number. He said that exact model was no longer available but they had a newer model they could send me if that was ok. Of course I was expecting weeks for turnaround, he said they'd ship it out right away and once I got the new one there would be a return lable in the box and I should put the old one in the box and slap the shipping label on it.
I gave him my name and address when he asked, and when he asked for my company name, I said none. He asked if I was sure and I said yes. This was around 3:00 PM, and I got the replacement wireless access point THE NEXT DAY at about 11:30 AM! Plugged it in and it worked like a charm.

Wow, didn't know Intel was like that. When I contacted Linksys about router problems, I was passed between 3 Indian techs who did not understand that I'm a network admin and know how to do a hard reset. I heard the same scripted BS from all 3 "techs". Eventually got fedup, hung up on them, and will never buy Linksys again. Moved to a Sonicwall VPN router. Excellent router, but being a high end solution, they stick to warranty periods to the hour.

As far as my blessed Logitech. I have cheapo Logitech mice/keyboards in the office. At home, I have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo with a recharging base station, flight stick, playstation 2 controller, playstation 2 headset, and a 6.1 speaker set. So obviously I love their products. I never knew they attached such excellent CS to their products.

I've been dealing with Chase Manhattan Mortgage on a refunding request since last July. I was told the VA that I was due a refund of the funding fee for my mortgage because of a pending and now settled disability claim. Chase (Columbus, Ohio) customer service (Manila, Phillipines) was ABSOLUTELY ZERO HELP. Finally, I got our local VFW VA rep involved and he made the right phone calls. 7 months later, I was finally credited. I can't believe one of the longest standing companies in American History has OUTSOURCED it's customer service department.

How can someone in Manila take care of something major just by looking at a computer screen? I'm now in the process of refinancng. I have to wait until May of next year. But, the paperwork is in. CHASE IS OUTA HERE!!
