Subject:
A person wrote a letter to the White House complaining about the treatment of a captive taken during the Afghanistan war. Following is a copy of a letter they received back:

The Pentagon
Washington, D.C. 20016

Dear Concerned Citizen:

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Our administration takes these matters seriously, and your opinion was
heard loud and clear here in Washington. You'll be pleased to learn
that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like you, we are creating a
new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the"Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short. In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.

Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for
transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday.
Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be
cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your
letter of admonishment. It will likely be necessary for you to hire
some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter.

Although Ahmed is sociopathic and extremely violent, we hope that your
sensitivity to what you described as his "attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws.

Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural
differences. He will bite you, given the chance. We understand that
your terrorist
is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human
life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We do not
suggest that you ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga
group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices
from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items
locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with your wife or daughters (except
sexually) since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This
is a particularly sensitive subject for him, and he has been known to
show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new
dress code that Ahmed will recommend as more appropriate attire. I'm
sure they will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the bhurka - over
time. Just remind them that it is all part of "respecting his culture
and his religious beliefs" - wasn't that how you put it?

Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like
you, who know so much, keep us informed of the proper way to do our
job.

You take good care of Ahmed - and remember - we'll be watching. Good
luck!

that's not reality.....that's a description of any known killer.

Reality is that there are some good folks out there in the Muslim faith that are not cold blooded killers. It's too bad that we only see the bad ones, and are so quick to judge the rest.......

I beleive adroomi is correct here. I know a muslim who does not approve of the bloodshed. I know another who believes we are murdering people in Iraq while the WTC attack was justified and they were casualties of war.

Good site to learn from? Pure facts? Man you guys, talk about a hate-filled webpage full of half-truths and propoganda. Get a life! Oh Wow, a converted muslim family is killed in their home during a robbery. Automatically that means it was an asassination by Muslims? That's life in America, home of the free! It even happens to Baptists (do you think the Muslims are doing it?) Speculation, deceit, and hatred is being bred on that page.

I live in a country that is 90% muslim. I also wear a cross around my neck. Nobody hates me for it. There's about .00001% of the worlds Muslims that don't like Americans. Of those, few would every go so far as to even give us a dirty look. There's more Christians on this board that would do much worse. Somebody please tell me what they know about muslims besides what they see in Rambo movies and on Bullsh*t anti muslim web pages as listed above.

Read folks, and for all means.....THINK!

Adroomi, I honestly do enjoy your input into many of these threads on the forum... but sometimes you do tend to extend over the line as to wanting to speak for others on how they are viewing issue's... I understand many times it is difficult to understand in the way a person "Types" without reading their facial expresions, but hearing/seeing their words... it can leave one not knowing exactly what was said where another will come along and try and interpret it for another... I appriciate your effort of trying to interpret what I said above... but at the same time please leave it in the same context as how I said it...
"Good site to learn from DMV... Thanks for the link ;0)"

I have been Edjumicated to where I can determine right from wrong = (read between the lines)... I have also been to many country's where Muslim is the 90%+ religion... curiosity of wanting to know more about the peoples backgrounds/heritage etc.. has been a passion of mine, and I've even read allot of scriptures from the Qu'ran or Koran however you would like to pronounce it... I don't need someone to come along and put words or discriptions of how they think I see it and then take that and run in any direction they see to fit their agenda.... Thanks, but no Thanks I can take it on my own from here!!!

"Somebody please tell me what they know about muslims besides what they see in Rambo movies and on Bullsh*t anti muslim web pages as listed above."

I know that many muslims I have met and communicated with.. have explained that their way of life has always been a hard way of life... that they do not have the same type Freedoms we in America do... But yet they are still proud of what little they do have...I've spoken to what some call themselves Peasents who came into the Country (Kuwait) for work for their family's back in the country's they were from(India,Pakistan) because there was no work to be found there and looking for a better life for themselves and their familys.. I've also talked with Royal Kuwaiti's who have spent time in the USA and were very thankful for our assistance in 1990/91 and talked more about how Kuwait has become more westernised and some of the differences and acceptences have caused allot of major riffs in their country and with there close brothers in Saudi...
I made good friends (so I think) with the conversations and sharing between the Harley Shop owner in Kuwait and his top Mechanic and a few other Harley Owners Group, Muslim Riders... I even shared cigars with them along with conversation... I really don't think I need to explain where the hell I've been or who I've talked to... but I did so just so you can get a little insight from an American in America... seem's your being out of country so long your tending to jump to conclusions that all the folks on this board want to rape and pillage the Muslims or even Liberals for that matter...

Adroomi,
You're falling victim to your own inconsistencies.
Above, you state "There's about .00001% of the worlds Muslims that don't like Americans. Of those, few would every go so far as to even give us a dirty look"

This quote, from a guy who refutes our American self-love by explaining that the rest of the world doesn't share in this admiration, and in fact feels some disdain towards our arrogance.

Your worldly travels have left you without an identity, my friend.
Time to sit back, light up, and thank God that you are American, so you can discuss this without any greater fear than stirring up a conservative backlash on these boards.

I highly doubt that those Muslims who live in Muslim countries can share that same freedom.

Adroomi,
I know that when I was sent to Saudi Arabia, I was told not to practice anything remotely Christian while in public. There was a church on the American compound that was referred to as the "stealth chapel", and it hadn't always been there. We were warned that display of Christian activity would likely result in our deaths. They said some folks had gotten in trouble in the past, and the US gov't was able to ship them home to avoid the local gov't, but there was no assurance that they would be able to do that for others.

I know there are tolerant muslims, but I also know there is widespread intolerance. I'm not Christian, Jewish, or any religion, but I can make some simple observations. I only know of one religion that is promoted by people that intentionally murder innocent people to promote their religion. Only one religion is endorsed by a country that will execute anyone that practices any other religion.

You say it's too bad we only see the bad ones and are so quick to judge the rest. I don't think we judge all muslims. The real problem is, there are a lot of bad ones.

My how we hate to have the mirror put up in front of our face! Reality sucks Adroomi in and spits him out as the authority in foreign travel!

"Half-truths and propaganda"? Better check YOUR information. Theirs is 100% accurate! Ever take the time to read the Koran/Quran? I have after 9-11. I wanted to know what would propel minds to want to do a horrific act! Front to Back cover. Multiple times with study guides. While you could find instances in the Bible describing the horrors of mankind, the Koran details how a believer should believe and their beliefs on how to treat women and animals would leave you a lonely guy IF you were all by yourself in your muslim paradise. It's been described as a religion of peace...it is not. It holds people captive to 9th century beliefs and traditions.

My advice to you would be to stay wherever you are if you've got it so good. Rescind your citizenship so we can make way for someone else to legally come to this country that wants or needs what it offers in the way of Freedom. Your telling us how good you've got it there is built upon the sham that you can return here and wallow in what we've built only to jet around and hang out in foreign dive bars. Forget Condé Nast, the readers here have you.! .The "grass" isn't always greener on the other side and only a fool would disrespect the USA and what she offers. Your broad brushstrokes to dismiss people here don't work, much like Rick's political banter...they don't sway anyone's beliefs or change them. It only highlights how pathetic people have a desire to be heard and they scream the loudest!

In the words of Dr. McCoy, "God forbid I should agree with Madvibe", but his point on the Koran is a good one. To call it a religion of peace is a joke. I am not a religious person, but I have read the Koran through at least once, and the Bible (many times). While it is difficult for me to see how Christianity (the new testiment) has lead a few fundamentalist "Christians" to commit the atrocities they have historically, it is easy to for me to see how the Muslim faith leads them to violence. While christianity predicts that those outside of their group will suffer at the hands of God in the afterlife, the Koran is not so patient and would have it's followers put the infidels to the sword today.

Death threat returns to haunt Rushdie
By Valentine Low, Evening Standard

Fifteen years after the late Ayatollah Khomeini called for Salman Rushdie to be put to death, and more than six years after the threat the threat against the author of The Satanic Verses seemed to have gone away forever, the fatwa is back.

It was reaffirmed by Iran's spiritual leader in a message to Muslim pilgrims.

According to the Iranian media, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, told pilgrims making the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that Rushdie was an apostate whose killing would be authorised by Islam.

However senior British officials said that the Iranian government had not changed its position since 1998 when it dissociated itself from the fatwa, which had originally led to Rushdie spending years of his life in hiding because of the alleged blasphemy in The Satanic Verses.

According to the officials, because the fatwa was issued in February 1989 by Iran's revolutionary founder and Khamenei's predecessor Ayatollah Khomeini, who had since died, it would always remain in existence. "The key thing from our point of view is that the Iranian government formally withdrew their support for the fatwa on Salman Rushdie in 1998 which is when Britain and Iran formally upgraded their relationship to the level of ambassador," said the Foreign Office.

"The original fatwa was issued by Ayatollah Khomeini shortly before he died. It can only be rescinded by the man who issued it or a higher authority so in practice it will hold indefinitely.

"Almost every time that the current supreme leader, Ayatollah

Khamenei, gives a sermon he mentions Salman Rushdie in these terms and denounces him as a man who has insulted the name of the prophet and who can therefore be killed. It's just the standard rhetoric."

The Foreign Office added: "The crucial thing is that the fatwa is no longer endorsed by the Iranian government because before 1998 what we had was effectively a statesponsored death sentence."

The reaffirmation of the fatwa - which came when Khamenei was speaking in his capacity as a spiritual leader rather than a leader in matters of state - comes at a time when relations between Britain and Iran are already tense because of Iran's nuclear programme.

However the Foreign Office said this did not mean they were likely to get any worse. "This should not be taken as a new development."

Scotland Yard's Special Branch, responsible for protecting Rushdie, who lives in New York, was not prepared to comment.

Lofty1,
Saudi Arabia? I'm not even close to that place, nor would I ever return. I stay away from the middle east, because those folks are lunatics. I live in Southeast Asia, where the muslims live, work, sleep, laugh, and marry Christians, Jews, Agnostics, and just about anyone they please.

Comparing the muslims I am near to the muslims in the middle east is like comparing apples to oranges. That's the whole point of most of my messages.....don't blame the good folks for what the evil ones do.

...and by the way, I don't have it so good over here. In fact life is quite difficult. It's tough not being on the homeland. I've never forgotten where I came from. Whatever gave you that idea? One day I'll return for good, but for the time being, a guy has to make a buck to survive.

Tailgater,
I'm not falling victim to inconsistancies. You are falling victim to mixing up statements and thread subjects. I appreciate your comments though, and respect them. I usually post in threads using stream of consciousness, so sometimes I'm hard to follow, I realize that. As Hog said above, it's hard to follow a conversation's intent when you can't see facial expression or tone.

When I refer to only a small percentage of muslims not liking us, it is in regards to our religion vs theirs, and the hatred they feel for infidels.

When I refer to the HUGE percentage of folks that dislike Americans in a previous post it is due to our arrogance, pride, and self-love of being American......this has nothing to do with religion! None of these folks that dislike us for our attitude, would ever wish us harm as the religious nuts would because we are Christian. They simply dislike our attitude.

As to my identity, I have probably a better view on my identity than you would think. I am an American that is thankful for the rights I have to say and do the things I do. I know I lose a lot of these rights when travelling, so I respect the culture and principles of the countries and people where I may be at that time. I'm loud and obnoxious on this board and in the States. My freedom allows me to be. While here wherever I am, I lose the "American" attitude and fall into the groove of the people that surround me. Sort of like "mixing in" due to respect for the folks that are hosting me in their culture, and also out of self-preservation. It's the folks that think that just because they are an American, they can "ACT" like one (I mean the ones that are loud, etc) in every country they visit. Kind of like how Steve Martin put it when he said, "I went to Paris, and do you know that those people did not even have the common decency to speak English!"

Lost my identity? Give me a break. I've been able to find it with the amount of travel and "open-minded" thinking that I do. I just don't expect everyone else in the world to share mine with me.

What is my identity you may ask? I'm an American that eats too much meat, smokes and drinks a little too much, and has a passion for women. I argue with authority (makes me the Govt's good cowboy that I am), I question everything, and read as much as I can. I also enjoy good music (not just American either!), and my dream is that if the terrorists ever strike on American soil again, that instead of blowing up buildings, they blow up the Glen Canyon Dam, and then progressively every other dam in the Southwest. I realize that Rickamaven would lose his electric lights in Vegas, but at least we'd save the Colorado River and the canyonlands.

There.....I need more coffee.

Cheers!
