Whether they are willing to admit it, or they just choose ignore it ... they do have problems with their server (or should I say site).

And it's been on going for quite some time.

1) The double posts are caused by the server 'timing out' (and you get that 'error message'). In turn ... you click 'back' to try it again. Even though it gave you the error message ... your post went through the first time.

2) You post to a thread, and go back to the board to look at the other topics ... and it doesn't show that you were the last poster on the thread you just visited ... but when you clik on that thread ... there you are.

3) It is VERY slow. Not just once and awhile ... but more often you have to wait what seems like an eternity (even with a T1 line). I can't imagine what it is like for those with dial-up ...

What are the issues here?

I've noticed this quite a bit also Slim...

and I backtrack allot to get back to the forum page to avoid the double post...

even sometimes it will time out without the error box and then hit repost and it will post it not twice but three times... last week it had jumped three posts of mine over and in the middle of another poster LOL...

I've also noticed it has picked up allot more since the Forbes issue so I'd say the heavy traffic here is pretty much a problem along with less bandwidth of what they've got... not to mention I'm sure their probably dealing with A$$Holes trying to Hack the server and spam it constently...

I hope in the near future they do get more bandwidth

or worst case if they have to dump.. that would mean all the past threads and search feature would be lost... I for one don't want to see this.. there is allot of valuable information given from many a folks on these threads!!!! I have noticed that I cannot locate some of my earlier day pictures etc.. 2000-2001 era?? but no biggy there LOL

While the forum has issues from time to time, I've never had trouble w/ the store.

This is why I don't visit here too often anymore... A shame really.

I figured they would've revamped the whole thing by now. But it's not like I have any idea how much work that would entail.

I have pretty much stopped posting/reading because of the server problems. Still pop in now and then because the knowledge here is outstanding! I saw other past threads on slowness, even did a search and it has been going on for some time. There was a ray of hope with the CBid post of "...your suggestions wanted..." but that seems to have died out with no action too. This is a great forum with an even greater group of helpful/knowledgeable people who attend it. However, if you cannot get the information effectively in a timely manner (this is the internet LOL) it is dissappointing and you end up surfing elsewhere. Also I did check worldwide internet speeds as well as my own connection upload/download speeds several times and neither of these were the culprit. CBid is the only one who can crunch the numbers and see if the forum is worth upgrading to maintain it ...or let it die slowly. I hope for the latter honestly.

I have no problems and I'm a few thousand miles away. Then again I'm running 100 Megabytes per second and I'm online when you guys (or as Pablo might say, "you's guys") are all tucked in for the night.

Last night,

I couldn't even get on the site, after 10:30p.m. central time. Kept getting a server error????

P.S. Last night it was the entire site not just the forums. Time to call the IT guys.

I run broadband with comcast cable modem. It's slow for me at times too. I'm blazing around everywhere else, then I'm crawling around at CBid.

Slim,

Hosting a site like this is very complex when the number of users increases. From CBids side of the house any number of issues can cause what we see from the end user or in this cause end loser. From bandwidth to database tuning these all play a part, and as in other issues in life you’re only as strong as the weakest link.

It seems like this site has been up and running since 2000, so if little has changed in hardware, bandwidth, or technology likely CBid will eventually collapse under it's own weight. If CBid is like most companies that primary function has nothing to do with technology then likely the gear and technology running this site is getting very dated.

Spot-on assessment. I have a T1 line at work and believe it or not, my home puter is faster than that with cable and I get that crap too...

My feelings exactly, but I wasn't the one that was going to post these issues, heheheeee.

Who knows, maybe (I hope) they are working on these issues already, and we are just unaware of it. Any good company that has computer issues are always battling something, be it spam, or hackers.

Millie keeps a stick to hit me in the back of the head but you do have a point there. In todays economy, there is always somebody waiting in the wings to take over with better service. I must say however, I'm mostly happy with Cbid with what few weeks I've been here. Wanted to put an ad in the church bulletin but got a negative on that ides. John

X, Slimbo is Jumbo's younger brother.

I thought that I had finally learned the fine art of double posting and then I find out it's just a fluke.

Slim, come'on now "...choose to ignore it..." I thought you knew us (and me) better than that.

Technology upgrades occur almost weekly and I think all of you would be pretty impressed at the facility. It's interesting that only one user has ever emailed me to say "hey, the site seems unbelievably slow right now" and although we usually recognize it first 99% of the time, sometimes you do, and we jump out of bed at all hours of the night to address it. Now, the past weekend caught us off guard. Our monitoring service went down and we failed to catch it until about 3am. This won't happen again.

Also funny is that for every 1 person that wanted a change to the forum (in our looking for suggestions post) someone else likes it just the way it is and doesn't want us to change a thing. Regardless, all requests have been noted and we've sprung to action on may of them, backburnered others.

Yes, CBID traffic has grown to monstrous proportions, particularly late in the evening as users flood the forum and lots, and we are challenged to keep our technology fully ready and prepared for traffic spikes.

Enough of the rant, onto the issues at hand. I see we have 2 primary concerns...speed and forum posts. These will be rectified NOW! But, I'll need your feedback (b/c to be honest, I login every night to read your rants and I don't have the speed issues, so help me out here tell me when you're getting the problems...is it all day, all night, certain hours of the day, certain days.) I won't stand for losing one fellow BOTL due to these issues.

Hey Gonz,

I will start a log, and note the time of day, when I have problems. Is your email gonz at cigarbid dot com??? If so I will forward my log, anytime I experience problems.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)

P.S. Been working fine this morning.
