This IS some bad news.

What a funny guy he was. Probably the most talented untalent ever to make it big. My dad's hero. Ouch. This hurts.

I know everybody has to die, but I never wanted to see this. One funny guy.

horrible....When I was a kid I used to sleep next to the room with the t.v. in it and would listen intently and sometimes peek around the corner to watch as my dad watched it. When I was finally old enough to watch it on my own...he retired. I think I will light one up for him tonight.

Funny I was just thinking about him yesterday too after I read this article about David Letterman using Carson's jokes

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/19/television.carson.reut/index.html

the article basically says that Carson was still writing jokes and would send them to Letterman once in awhile. I read some other article (can't remember where) in which Letterman said that anytime Carson would send in jokes...he always used them. Carson would watch Letterman on the nights he sent in the jokes and get a real kick when he heard them on t.v.

I used to do it, too, Lukin. Keep the bedroom door cracked open so I could hear the TV. It was a great feeling when I was finally "old enough" to sit up and watch with Mom and Dad.

I trylu believe that the comedy business would not have been the same had not Johnny Carson introduced so many comics to us on his show. Almost all comics that we know today will admit that they owe their success to Johnny. As I grew older, I began to understand just why he was so stupid funny. He looked as if he never had to work at it. He made it look like any ordinary shmoe could go out there and slay an audience every night. Johnny was even funnier when a joke bombed. I think even the writers set him up on occasion just to bomb so he could do that soft shoe dance after the joke went flat. There'll never be another Carson.

We'll miss you John.

Funny moment from a Carnack the Great skit:

Johnny, as Carnack, holding the envelope up to his head...."Carnack demands silence" as crowd is laughing at last joke......

Ed McMahon, "You will get silence after this next one"!

The Carnack skits were his very best, because of the facial expressions he used to show after Ed would do something, such as, repeat what he had said!

"How do you get there, you ask? Take the Ventura Freeway to the 405, then go until you get to the Slauson cutoff. Stop the car. Get out of your car. Cut off your Slauson. Get back in your car and go until you come to ... the fork in the road."

TeaTime Movie with Art Fern and cohosted by Carol Wayne (well endowed Carson celebrity guest) in a tee shirt and shorts!

Remember the show when Carol Wayne was on with Dean Martin, George Goebel and Bob Hope and they kept going on about her boobs!!!!??????? Funny, great memories!
Same show, Dean Martin kept flicking his cigarette ashes in George Goebel (who was blasted) drink!

Ah, Carol Wayne ... the "matinee lady" ...

And I sure do remember Dino flicking the ash in ol' George's drink ... that was about as hysterically funny as the night Johnny and Burt Reynolds broke out the cans of aerosol whipping cream ...

While I was at lunch, I thought of another good one and literally laughed out loud ... since I was alone, people near me must've thought I'd slipped a gear ... LOL

Carson (as Swami) was asked "What came after the Big Bang?

"The big cigarette" he replied ...

Another great one was when he had Jack Webb on the show and they did the Dragnet takeoff!

Gee, I am laughing to myself just thinking of Johnny Carson bits....the Ed Ames hatchet (tomahawk) toss is another all time classic and supposedly Johnny's favorite!
