Why Liberals Love Gun Control
by Justin Darr
19 January 2005

If there is one thing liberals love more than banning Christianity from public schools it is creating ineffective gun control laws.

If there is one thing liberals love more than banning Christianity from public schools it is creating ineffective gun control laws. Despite centuries of evidence that gun control laws do not lower crime, stop violence, or make society safer in any way, liberals keep plugging away at our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

I am not going to weary you with a regurgitation of all the well known statistics showing how strict gun control laws are followed by sharp spikes in violent crime rates or with arguments asking the Left to explain its intellectual consistency behind their view that the only remedy to a failed gun control law is the creation of another gun control law just like it. The real question in the gun control debate is not the statistics or the nuances of the law but why in the first place liberals are so preoccupied with making it harder for law abiding citizens to carry a gun.

Gun control laws are as old as America, stretching far back into the early Colonial period. As far as the United States as a political entity is concerned, the first gun control law came less than one year after the ratification of the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights, with the "Uniform Militia Act of 1792." In the Act, every "able bodied white male citizen" between the ages of 18 and 45 was to be enrolled in the state militia and was required to "provide himself with a musket or firelock, a bayonet, and ammunition." In early America, it was not a question of "if" you had the right to bear arms, but whether you would be "required" to own a gun. This Act is significant for two reasons. First it shows the intent of the Framers was that every citizen was considered part of the militia; therefore, no citizen could have their right to bear arms curtailed by the government. Second, with the Act designating "white males" as citizens and part of the militia, it effectively denied slaves and even free African-Americans their newly declared Constitutional rights.

It is quite obvious that there were many in early America who did not want slaves, or those sympathizing with their suffering, from having access to guns. Why? Well, it is pretty simple. If slaves had guns, then they would not have been slaves for much longer. Firearms would be used by slaves as a tool to overthrow their oppressors -- just as the American Colonists had done against the British -- and demand their full rights and dignity as citizens. The "Uniform Militia Act of 1792" opened a door that was used by many states to pass follow up legislation that made it illegal not just for African-Americans to carry or own a gun, but to even use one unless under orders from their "master." From its inception, gun control was a vehicle to deny basic rights, prevent self defense, and oppress citizens.

Gun control laws still disproportionately regulate the African-American community, but now our benign liberal leaders want to spread the oppression about a bit more fairly. But the goal remains the same. Gun control does nothing but oppress a population, deny them basic rights, make them subservient to the government, and prevent them from changing their collective conditions at the time of their choosing, rather than at the sanction of the State. Liberals do not want you making your own decisions anymore than they did the slaves. That is their job. How can they possibly restructure society so a Republican is never elected President again, if people are running around not doing what they are told? Liberals love gun control for the simple fact that it directly impacts the most independent, self reliant, and free thinking of us, as demonstrated by our refusal to proxy our personal protection out to an unaccountable government.

The goal of gun control is not to actually control guns and make the world a safer place, but to control people. It is not as important that you pass a criminal background check, so much as it is that you feel obligated to ask the state for permission to buy a gun. Liberals know gun control laws will not stop criminals, but they erode the sense of independence and self reliance of regular people until they feel that they can do nothing that does not meet government approval.

Gun owners choose to protect themselves, thank you very much. They do not need government protection anymore than any of the other ill conceived plans of the Left. And that is why the liberals want to control their guns. It is the only means they have to directly control the lives of those who would otherwise go on ignoring them.

I don't know why, but this reminds me of a line from The Blues Brothers movie,"The Jew is using the Black as a weapon against the White".

....it's all a plot. The liberals are trying to oppress the blacks who are in turn trying to oppress the gub-ment. Where's whitey in all of this?

EI, I'm sorry, maybe you meant well, so if I took it wrong my apoligies in advance, but back to another thread......if you are white, former military, and posting little quips like this one.......you need to be profiled. Do you wear black boots with white laces my friend? Been to any ranches up in the mountains with bearded guys lately? Just curious.

Also as for the firt paragraph about centuries of studies about gun control etc.....and the part about gun control being almost as old as America itself? What and how many centuries are we talking about? Oh yeah, do you mean all "both" of them? We're a pretty young country you know.

If the gov't were to need overthrowing tomorrow, and us "liberal" but yet, "gun owners" led the charge who would show up anyway? My guess is the liberals would lead the charge, and most of you that cry about gun control and how it's your right, etc, would stay home and miss the fight? Why? Because most folks who are against gun control, are also the ones that worship George B. and would follow him into Hell if he takes us there, rather than question him.

I own guns (lots of them). The are for one purpose only.....to kill things!

I also oppose certain things our gov't is doing, and I make it very clear.

I question everything I see

Can you say the same?

You don't have to look very far back and see what great thing that gun control has done.

Let's start with Hitler. disarm the population and all he can do whatever he wants. all hell breaks loose.
Need something a little closer to the present. look at Australlia and Great Britian. Especially handgun laws.
Look at these 2 countries violent crime statistics. they have soared in the last few years. since these great gun control laws have been in place.

What most liberals cannot get through their thick skulls. IT it is NOT the instrument that is used in the killing it is the Killing itself that is the problem.

As far as Liberals leading the charge. YOU HAVE TO BE FUC!KING JOKING. Shumer, Feinstein. KERRY, Boxer (These are Liberals Right!!!). NONE of these people have ever met a Gun control issue they did not love.Kind of hard to have a revolt with out guns!!!!

I think you have had to much sun if you ever think that a Liberal will lead the charge. What a joke

let me add 1 more thing.

If you put "liberal and guns" together you would be lucky to have enough for a baseball game let alone an army.

Am I Bush Lover hell NO!!!. But I think the other choice was the lowest skum there ever was (KERRY) he is nothing but a lying 2 faced dirtbag. He will tell ANYBODY anything that would be appropriate at the time to maybe get you to vote for him

I never said "gun erradication." but rather "gun control." I've said it before, I'm a gun person. I've got quite a healthy collection....trust me. I do agree with "gun control" though. control such as keeping them out of the hands of known criminals, better policy on ownership, etc.

...and just to let you know, the NRA bends the facts when they discuss OZ and Great Britain's rise in violent crime. OZ for example only banned semi-automatic paramilitary type weapons (AK47's, spas12's, things like that). Their violent crime rates rose a few percent, because they also passed policy to label previous crimes that were not labeled violent as violent. Crimes such as aggravated assault are now listed as violent. This was also part of the plan. They banned the paramilitary weapons, and made smaller crimes more punishable. This was your increase you speak of. The murder rate went down by the way.

the above Kerry thing I totally agree with.....

I totally agree with keeping guns out of the wrong hands ( Criminals. Mentally unstable. Etc).
But more laws are not going to make this happen.
I to own several guns, to the tune of 30 or 40 thousand $$ worth if I had to replace them. These are not “collectables” these all get shot on a regular basis. I own one of those dreaded “50 caliber sniper rifles”yea right!!!. Capable of taking down an airplane according to most liberals.( Just how far do you have to lead an airplane that is flying 4 or 500 miles an hour?????) ( what a joke). Not your average rifle to shoot at $4+ a round. I also own some paramilitary weapons. I use mine for shooting Prairie Dogs. 1 in particular I can run 20 rounds downrange. Semi rapid fire and if I do my part can cover all them up with a quarter at a hundred yards. ( 5 shots under a dime if I take my time at a hundred yards).. longest shot to date 850 measured yards. It took me 4 shots to get him but 850 yard none the less
This makes me a maniac????. No, this makes me a pretty fair shot.
Am I going to go on a shooting spree in the near future NO.
Do I think the government should know what I own? None of their damm business!!!!!!!. I play by the rules, and as long as I play by the rules. I should be able to own anything and everything that my little heart desires.

You can outlaw ANYTHING and the only ones that are going to play by the rules are the people that are already playing by the rules. WE ARE DEALING WITH CRIMINALS. They really don’t give a Damm. They are criminals right??. So what is another law going to change????. NOTHING!!!! .

What about OZ’s hangun ban???. From what I have read (from people that live there NOT the NRA) it is damm near impossible to own one down there anymore. But I will bet you the criminal element still have theirs!!

I have been in a situation or 2 that the sight of a holstered handgun. dramatically changed the situation in my favor. I have never drawn a weapon on another person before in my life, but I would not hesitate if the situation came down to this scumbag or me to drop the hammer on the little prick and let the chips fall where they may. When the cops arrive it will be my side of the story if I have anything to say about it.. If my 195 pound dog (Great Dane) does not get him, or I don’t get him, the little **** better buy some lottery ticket because he is especially lucky today.

End of rant
Bottom line. More gun control laws will NEVER solve the problem. Enforce the 10 thousand + gun control laws on the books right now instead of adding more to it.
Commit a violent crime with a weapon. Life in prison no exceptions no parole.
Kill somebody with a gun while commiting a crime. DEATH for you also. Also reducing the prison population at the same time
You as a law abiding gun carrying citizen. Shoot some prick committing a crime, hero status!!!
The stats I saw were NOT from the NRA, but they were from PRO-gun organization. I tried looking them up, but I am at work and don't have the link handy. it is at home

As far as the NRA "bending the facts" The goverment would NEVER think about doing that either NO

I am home now. This is where I got my information from.
Alot is about the Canadian Gun registration fiasco.
That was supposed to cost under $2 million when "concieved" and now has topped $1 BILLION and still climbing. But also does mention Great Britian and Australia. and the crime rates climbing.

I as a very much pro-gun individual have no choice but to get my information from pro-gun sources. The other side would never promote the miserable failures!!!. They would just bend and twist the fact into a real rosy picture for their side. NOT saying the my side does not do the same. SO the truth is hidden somewhere in between all the BS
Here is the Link. pretty long read but I think some decent info.

Let's put this in term that even you with your twisted point of view might understand.

Let's bend this to cars (ficticially of course)

The government comes out with a mandate that says it is going to BAN every car that has a top speed of over 70 miles per hour, just because at this and higher speeds the fatality rate in crashes is 5 times more likely to occur.
Also with this mandate if you own a vehicle that gets less than 15 miles per gallon you have to justify to them why you have to drive this vehicle.
BOY this would have 3/4 of those soccer moms up in arms that are driving around in those cicilian versions of Armored personel carriers.

Also another law was passed that you could not own any dog that weighed more than 35 pounds. because it COULD injure somebody.

Point being the government has no damm business sticking their nose in and "protecting me". I can do that myself.

By the way Rick did you even read the link, I doubt it!!. You are just Spewing SH@T again.

There are already laws against criminals owning guns.

I don't think they pay any attention to them. They probably won't register theirs either.

I have been lurking for awhile, occasionally posting for the last month..
Usually busting on Rick for his twisted, very narrow points of view.

I never take myself too seriously.
Contrary to what my post’s may look like.
I AM NOT a “redneck” that drives a jacked up pick up truck, from down south, missing my front teeth, living in a Trailer. And working at a gas Station changing. tires (not that there is anything wrong with that)
I AM, single, early 40’s, born and raised in Northern Minnesota. (as close to Canada as you can get without actually being there) ( a Republican from Minnesota yea), live in a house that does not have wheels under it, .have all my teeth, have a job with a very high 5 figure salary and drive a Lincoln.. and still think that it is my right to own firearms. Unfortunately I am now living in the EMPIRE where Daley is the mighty ruler. (Illinois). Not in Chicago but too close for my comfort. I only live here because of the job. Nothing else.
I have always had and always will have very strong views when it comes to the government telling ME what is good for me. I will decide that for myself thank you!!

As far as this thread. If and when the goose stepping Nazi’s( Daleys goons) come looking for my gun’s. my answer would be.!! what guns??. I have no guns in my possession. Most not all but most are not here where I live. They are residing a more gun friendly state as we speak..

i was right, you post smut.

you are the kind of nut case that should be barred from owning a gun. you are an explosion waiting to happen, or a chicken **** little tweerp that like to shoot off his mouth and would cry at the first sign of perceived danger. in either case you are a poster child for "keep the nut cases away from guns

"I have been in a situation or 2 that the sight of a holstered handgun. dramatically changed the situation in my favor.
