I've been a Cub fan since I can remember. Atleast 40 years. I've been disapointed time and time again. This time I can say with all candor that even though I loved Sammy Sosa, there is absolutely no love lost over this move.

So long Sammy. Camden Yards is a great hitter's park. Just remember, Cal Ripken Jr. played there. Don't stink the place up.

Herfsnipe- A fellow Cubs fan. I'm a die-hard cubs fan for all my life (My grandfather raised me that way).

"SoLong Sosa". Apparently he was quite the different person off camera than on, that's unfortunate.

Front page headline in the Chicago Tribune: "Chicago cork industry lays off half of work force, considering move to Baltimore".

My emotions were mixed about this. But, I could only conclude that in the end, Sammy was all about Sammy.

As last year went on, he began to take the boos deeply personally. He felt betrayed by the Cub fans and blamed it on Dusty. Dusty should have dropped him in the order in June. When he finally did drop him, it was far too late to make any difference. Dusty had given him the benefit of the doubt, but Sammy didn't see it that way. The final straw came on the last day of the season when Sammy blew off the Cub fans who so unconditionally paid his $87,500 a day salary.

Once again, I'm sad that it came to this, but I'm not surprised. And Baltimore is getting a steal. The Cubs will pay $12 plus million of his 2005 salary. I think Sam will crank 40 dingers and drive in 100 runs. Not bad for less than $4 million for a guy who could fill your ballpark during a hurricane.

So long Sammy. You were good for baseball in Chicago and I hope it works out for you. Now I get to cheer for....

JEROMY BURNITZ !!!!!!

WOOO HOO !!! YEAAAAHHH!!!!!!

even though it wasn't with the Cubies, didn't it make you feel good to see Grace get a World Series before he retired.

Yes it did... he was always a silent player... for years he would be in the backend bringing home the game...

I cannot remember sometime in 2000?? they finally started recognizing his behind the sceen talents he was bringing to the Cubs!!!

I don't know what happened in 2000, but from the time I always loved the silent first base leadership that he ALWAYS gave the Cubs. A true vet of his craft even when he was a rookie.

By the way, it's Ryne, not Ryan.

And, "J**us H. Ch**st on a popsicle stick"

is my sarcastic way of expressing how absurdly excited I am about the Cubs signing a .237 hitter that's been on 5 teams the last 5 years and strikes out more than Sammy ever did.

Even an injured Magglio Ordonez would be better than Jeromy Burnitz.

I too was very glad to watch mark Grace win his World Series ring in 2001. I was very happy for him. He was a classy player. He did, as many a Jim Rome fan may know, coin the phrase "Slumpbuster" .

Herf,
Grace was the best! I totally enjoyed him getting his ring! I wish he could have gotten more.
You're right it is Ryne, and I made reservations at aCooperstown Hotel for three days at the end of July!! Just me and my Son are going...he was one of Ryno's biggest fans.

Lifetime Cubs fan of 24 years. I thought he should have been traded a long time ago when he was worth something. Like the year he had with McGuire. After all, 70HR and we still weren't even close to being a contender. He wasn't helping us win, just putting on a good show. Burnitz is washed up, but I hope he has a good year. I was salivating at the thought of gettings Maggs, but it looks like that's out of the question now. Hariston will provide a strong lead off hitter and I hope he stays healthy and productive. Although our offense took some major power losses, I like the new OBP and the excessive speed we now possess!

IT was funny the time the Cubs went to B-More and Sosa was in the outfield at Camden and some dumbass fans ran out onto the field and dropped corks in front of him. I would love to see the looks on their faces now the first time Slammy yanks one into the 3rd level seats in left field or against the bricks of the warehouse in right field. That team has not had a jaw dropping power hitter since Boog Powell. They had Reggie for a year, but this is different. Could you have pictured Reggie on roids? He would have been as feared a hitter as Bonds. He was still pretty scary.

Good luck Sam, we'll look in on you from time to time.
