Anyones who is into some great authentic American blues will love Eric Clapton's new album (I think its new), Me & Mr. Johnson.

I've been a Robert Johnson fan for over 20 years, and it's great to hear a tribute such as this; recording true to form to the originals.

Man.........I'm really digging these songs.

You gotta love the Blues by Clapton, big time blues fan and I am from Mississippi originally and was brought up listening to the Blues. My classmates in High School were into the white music, and I was into the Blues along with a couple of friends. Have been to many a good Mississippi Juke joint to listen to the blues. Seen BB King, Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf just to name a few....I think Clapton plays the Blues as well as anybody ever has played it white or black, and he plays tribute to the great artist when he plays on stage.

A great cigar and some good bourbon and the Blues, what a great time!

Whoops, left off John Lee Hooker, T Bone Walker, Professor Longhair and Etta James as great Blues artist I have seen play.....nothing like it! Wish I could have seen Robert Johnson and Billie Holiday!

Maybe there will be a blues club in Heaven where they play, I want to think so, beats floating around on clouds! LOL

WOW. Excellent taste in blues on this board. While I am not a "huge" Clapton fan, I really love the spin he put on these songs..........and I know all the words from years of listenin to RJ. Growing up in Central FL, I was probably the only high school kid who loved to listen to and (try to) play Robert Johnson. It just so happened I was wrong. There was one other, and we became great friends and still fish together when we can find the time & cash to head south.

An interesting aside. I recall a Clapton interview where he expressed his love for the RJ recordings, saying that he didn't feel he had the talent to actually try to cover them the way they were recorded originally.

I guess wisdom and skill comes with age because EC really did a great job here.

Budding Blues Fans would do well to check out the artists already listed on previous posts but don't leave out Johnny Winter, Susan Tedeschi, and some of Bonnie Raitts' tunes! Also the Willie Dixon Chess Collection is a nice anthology for anyone starting in their blues discoverys.

I think Me and Mr. Johnson came out about a year ago. From the Cradle, a previous release, was also good.
