Steve,
By now it's obvious to all who care to read such things that you and I have gotten crossways with each other on a couple of threads. In reading through them, I see that I have been perhaps over-reacting to a couple of things you said which conveyed to me an impression you may not have intended: that you consider yourself intellectually superior to many of us here, and that you don't much care who knows it. Examples:

Alaska...sorry, friend, but you are misinformed beyond credulity.

Feel free to delude yourself into thinking anything your heart desires.

I got a little defensive at those comments, as I felt there was a superior tone there, and that you WERE belittling my intelligence. (perhaps justifiably, and perhaps not) So then when you posted to Chris (hitler02):

You don't seem to have a clue about propriety and respect.

I decided a retort was in order.

That led... well, we both know where that led.

hitler02, a newcomer, may have been run off as a result of some things that were posted on his thread (yours among them). You may say that he shouldn't be so thin-skinned, but then one could ask about pots calling kettles black. I believe, as many others seem to, that his choice of usernames, while atrocious, was probably not intended maliciously; but was simply the result of a lapse of judgement, which we each have from time to time, goodness knows. However, for good or ill, he may be gone... or he may reappear with a different (and hopefully less offensive username. That's history and there's naught you or I can do to alter that.

I don't think, however, that either of us are going away. I've read some of your other posts and threads, and you have ideas and opinions that are valuable, whether I agree with them or not. For the ideas I've expressed I do not apologize; but I do apologize for presenting them in a way that may have angered or offended you, or anyone else for that matter. We don't need to become buddies, by any stretch of the imagination, but I think we can and should get civil with one another. I'm willing to do that.

badger: I think you're taking this all far too seriously. This is a public cigar bulletin board. A majority of what people post is embellished and for their personal entertainment. It's a diversion; an intellectual video game; a place to kill time.

I've been involved in cigar BBSs since they were simple list-serves shared via email. There will always be people knocking heads, particularly those new to the boards who don't quite understand their culture.

The cigar discussion boards, where cigars are the topic, as a general rule, are light hearted but serious in intent, because people are taking your word and recommendations to spend their money. The off topic boards are just b.s. for laughs. Believe me, I've been flamed by the best and returned as well as received.

People make a serious mistake when they allow these boards to become real life, because it isn't, and many people who post, aren't who they'd like you to think they are.

Steve...

all points true; but I am who I am, and one of the things I'm not is one who flames just for the sake of flaming. I'm fine, and since you seem to be as well, we'll leave it at that. Nuff said.

badger, I do want to touch base on a comment you made on another thread, re: "drop a dime."

You see, my friend, that would violate every rule, convention, and courtesy of BBS play. It would be as if you and your wife went to a movie, then, in the middle of the film, one of the actors stepped off the screen and ate your popcorn. What happens during a discussion, even an argument, on a cigar BBS stays there, immoveable. It doesn't move to real life.

Regretfully, in the history of this forum, there has been an instance where someone moved the discussion to real life. It was unfortunate for both parties.

"thread jack on" ( if this is indeed a threadjack, my apologies)
"and many people who post, aren't who they'd like you to think they are."
First off I have read and appreciated many of your posts, you've provided me with alot of information regarding cigars. But being an optimist I would like to think that most people that post here are very much the way they present themselves on this board, and that is what draws me here. I am not so naive as to think there are not people here who are not "as they seem".(But yes,I do think SirWolfgang really is/an/are a knight!LOL)

I also would like to think that the people I have met here, the trades I have made, and the herf I am going to next weekend are "real life".

....(and yes I really am a "Bladerunner". Don't make me do the Voight-Kampff test on y'all, just get along now.)

Gentleman, you may smoke.

Bladerunner: The minute you shake hands, it becomes real life and all the BBS nonsense is past. The guy you detest on the internet may become the most interesting and friendly person you have ever encountered. A week later, your alter egos may tear one another a new posterior on the BBS. It's like the saying "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."

Of course, trades are real. Email may be real or not.
Some friendships develop, evolve, and may endure.

The reality is, however, most BBS contributors never meet, and wish to remain very anonymous.
