You gotta get some Genuine by Rolando Reyes Sr. Same perfect construction, and a very similar flavor although by no means a duplicate. I can't recommend these to everyone, because the PI is a unique taste and some simply can't stand them. But I love the Puros Indios and this is a very affordable alternative (picked up a box of the #4 for under $25 bucks here at CBid). Also, for the record, I HATE the Roly cigars by Rolando Jr. Go figure.

I wasn't posting to suggest it as unusual that they taste similar, just to confirm it. The Reyes family makes the Roly which sucks, but these Genuine are Great. Oftentimes cigars by the same manufacturer are not close in taste or quality. In fact the Cuba Aliados is also made by Rolando, and also taste similar to the PI. But the price is not as low as the Genuine, so it's not a big deal.

I seem to enjoy the Viejo with its slightly harsh Ct. Flavors. What is the Genuine like in profile?

The PI was a fran-friggin-tabulous smoke back in the day.

I don't like the newer offerings, but I stand by what I said over a decade ago.

About a year or so ago I smoked an old PI that was hiding away for at least 8 years, probably more. It was everything I remembered.

The taste of the PI/Cuba Aliado/Genuine was unique when compared to other cigars. To this day I can't name the flavor or the type of leaf that created it. And I know a lot of people who didn't like them at all, but not because they sucked like todays versions.

Of course, none of this diminishes the fact that we Pats fans ARE nuts.
