Sorry Clyde, I don't usually check the Misc. forum.
Let me check and see if we don't already have that one. I haven't read it yet, so if we don't I'd be interested.
An interesting note about Tolkien's work - he wrote a great deal of "background" lore that formed the foundation for 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings' as a personal quest to create an English Mythology that rivalled the Greek, Roman and Norse Myths. It troubled him that the only ancient tales that England possessed were the Arthurian Legends, and set about 'recording' a mythology unique to his English heritage. From those efforts, the creation and history of Middle Earth was formed and chronicled in 'The Silmarillion'. This mythology preceeded the four books mentioned above.
You will find that reading 'The Silmarillion' through the first time without getting hung up on the names is difficult, and warrants a second reading. It was the second time through for me when it clicked and gave the Trilogy a whole new dimension. Peter Jackson and his entire staff did an amazing job bringing out the richness of these Myths in the movies. Unfortunately, unless you are familiar with the ancient lore, most of this, which is contantly referred to in small snippets, is easily overlooked..........
Glad to hear you're enjoying the book. It goes well with a good cigar.......
