As a criminal defense attorney I have the utmost respect for Johnny Cochran. The OJ case is not typical of what we see. The government usually has all the resources and the defense has very little. In that case he forced the state to work at their job. They couldn't keep up. I don't know that Johnny won that case as much as the state lost it because of egos, laziness or lack of ethics, but he made them go the extra mile to meet a burden they couldn't meet.
Johnny had great help in that case from Barry Scheck et al so he didn't do it alone, but his oratory skills were outstanding. The case pointed out how divided this country can be on racial lines.
We don't hear about the low profile cases, but Johnny took those on as well as forced some changes in the way police do business. Not saying that police are bad cause they aren't, but Johnny exposed the bad ones which is what we should want as a society.
When they came for the Jews no spoke up. When they came for the Protestants no one spoke up. When they came for me there was no left to speak. Johnny made sure he spoke up. God bless you Johnny, RIP.
