Was having pizza tonight for dinner and I was wondering. How many of you prefer pizza from chain stores like, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa Johns, etc? How many of you prefer pizza from you local pizzeria? I prefer my local. I had a bad run in with Dominoes the other day. I ordered a large pie with mushrooms and extra sauce. When I began eating the pie I noticed that some slices didn't even and sauce on it. I called them back up to complain and told me that they were going to send somebody out to check out the pie. I told them not to even bother. It took almost an hour for them to deliver the damn pizza and they are only about 10 minutes away. My local is around the block and I can have a pie at my door in less than 20 minutes.

my "local" is a thirty minute drive one way...but it is ten times better than any chain (although Round Table is good in a pinch) My favorite dish from the local? The olive special loaded with olives, artichoke hearts, cheese and mushrooms all made New York style where the slices are so big you have to fold them in half to eat them MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Local. In Minneapolis, its all about Lake Harriet Pizza (IMNSHO).

For chains, Papa Johns will do.

We have a local Pizza hut in the area that delivers within 30 minutes. My wife prefers Pizza Hut over the others, but I like Papa John's. Actually, I don't care where it's from. Pizza comes in a close 2nd to my sesert Island dish of spaghetti and meatballs. I guess I can say never really had a bad pizza. If there was ever one in my book, it had to be from a Little Ceasar's in Imperial Beach, CA. I'm not condemning the chain, just this particular store. If my memory serves me right, it took almost 2 hours to deliver, and the order was incorrect. We still ate it. Thank goodness for microwave ovens. It lacked that fresh flavor though, and it had mushrooms which my wife hates.

My favorite take out pizzas in the order in which they are received:

1. Papa John's

2. Pizza Hut

3. Round Table

4. Godfather's

As for the do it yourself pies, DiGiorno's thin crust pepperoni is in the oven as we speak.

Commissary had them for $3.00. I loaded up. Cheap, easy, and pretty good for a $3 pizza.

I dislike all the pizza we have in our area. When I have a craving, we make a roadtrip to Manhattan and go to Patsy's on 3rd ave.

My neighbor, Les and his wife Ginny have a brick oven in their house. He says he worked for his uncle's pizzaria in NYC before they retired. Incredible deep dish pizzas, breads, and the sauces that come out of that kitchen are beyond description. You gotta be there for the veal parmesian and chicken piccata. This lady can cook. And he makes all the pizzas.

Nice house, nice SUV's. Nice brick oven. Great neighbors. As friendly as anyone I've ever known. I'll bet we've been over there for dinner 15 times in the last 2 years. I keep bugging him to open his own pizza joint. He's still young enough. He says thry're happy just like they are.

God bless Ginny and Les, and their deep dish pizza.

Local by far!

Best in my area is called the Wonder Bar. They don't deliver but you can eat in or take out. It's been around for God knows how long. Probably haven't renovated in 40 yrs. Dark yet warm place, nicotine stained ceiling, little old lady behind the bar... Until the past couple of years they still had the little juke boxes in each booth.

It's all in the sauce and the crust. The sauce can't be a slight twist from your spagetti sauce. Pizza sauce is completely different. More pasty, more sweet. If you gonna do a thin crust, it's gotta be a nice thin crispy cracker-like crust. If you going for thick crust, crisp on the outside, nice and doughy inside. Almost french bread like. Anything else in between is just a generic pizza.

Now I'm getting hungry

Local chain: Toarmina's, home of the 24" pizza. My kids love it because it's huge. It's only OK, however.

National Chain: Dominos...Have to, my in-laws are friends with Tom Monaghan.

But 98% of the pizza we eat is homemade! Yum.

I live in Brooklyn New York, Bensonhurst to be exact. There's a pizzeria every other block. Chain stores don't stand a chance.

BuckyB93,

I have friends in Clarksburg WV and I've actually eaten at the Wonder Bar - twice. A really nice place with local flavor.

We usually make our own, starting out with those pre-baked crusts you buy in the market. I like to drizzle on a little olive oil, grate some Parmesan and mozzarella, and then throw on some artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, capers, and garlic.

Round Tables Hearty Bacon Supreme is to DIE for. But I usually like to get a Pizza Slut pie. I just love their pan crust.

We do have a local that would make papa john's toppings look like week old trash offerings. It's called "My Buddy's Pizza" and he PILES on the toppings. So much cheese you could damn near choke on it.

MMMMMMMMMMMM - Cheeeeeeeeeese!
