Any of you FOGs remember the floor standing type that had a knob on top. When you depressed the knob the disk that formed the tray part would spin and lower into the body of the pedestal flinging the ashes off by centrifugal force into thew nether reaches of the pedestal? It was fun to play with in the barber shop while Dad read the Police Gazzette. Then I got my turn in the barber chair and because of the mirrors on both the front and the back walls I got a glimpse of infinity.

I'd love to find one of those ashtrays. I don't even know what to call it so I could search for one.

You're in luck....there is a store here by me called Jembro. They sell everyday household items but they are really cheap. I saw the ashtray you are talking about. Actually, they had two different styles. The first is the one you've described. Looks like a flying saucer. Push the button down and it opens up to drop the ashes. The other one is globe shaped. Same thing..push the button and it opens up to discard the ashes. they were about 20.00 bucks when I last saw them. Then stand about 3 feet. Let me stop over there this weekened and I'll let you know if they have any. Let me remind you...they are cheaply made but will do the job....and they are chrome in color.
