Thanks Wolf -
I was trying to guess how many people were there when I was telling the kids about it last night. My childhood memory exagerated it up to 500,000 but 250,000 is close 🙂
That was at living history farms (www.lhf.org) which is a farm/museum. It is about 5 miles from the house I grew up in.
There was no way to drive any closer, so we walked. As I said before, the whole 5 miles was lined with vendors. I need to find that tacky pope baseball type pennat I bought.
My family is/was not catholic, but my mom and our next door neighbor (a babtist) insisted we go because it was a once in a life time event. I never did thank her, but will.
I do remember it being really cold and complaining the whole way there. Funny thing is I don't remember complaining once there, or on the way back. Even at that age, I was in awe. I've never seen anything like it before or since.
I found out he passed while I was on a treadmill at the gym yesterday. It is kind of strange, and totally out of character for me but I almost cried. I'm not really sure why.
Thanks again for the link. I'll share it with my kids.
