I met this guy from Italy this weekend, his name is Deigo, and we got into a discussion about smoking and I noticed that on his pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes that at least half, if not two-thirds, of this package was warning label(s). I compared his pack to a pack of cigarettes sold in America and there were only 2 warnings down the sides of the pack. He also told me that in another european country (I don't remember which one) that all you see is the name of the smoke at the top of the package and the rest of the pack is all warning label. I just found it interesting.

Canadian ones are interesting too...

I especially like the pic of the decaying mouth. A nice touch...

Does one of the european warnings read?

Warning!

Buying American cigarettes supports a capitalist war mongering county that kills innocent Muslim Freedom Fighters around the world and will not give us enough U.S dollars

i admire your politness and patience, to answer an asinine question that had nothing to do with the point of your post. some of our botl are like the old baby brownie camera, fixed focus.

i saw a pack of cigaretes similar to that years ago in nassau.

it appears that some countries feel the need to inform their citizens of the dangers inherent in smoking cigarettes.

Thanks Rick.

Here's an idea of what the packaging was like. The lettering on the warning was big and black with a white background and black border

Thom,

In Singapore it's even better......

The entire top 1/3 of the pack is a photo (all sides). One of them is a pic of a really nasty rotted mouth. One is a set of cancer blackened lungs. One is even a picture of a premie baby hooked up to life support (the caption on this one says, "smoking will KILL you baby."

The best of all though is the picture of a young guy (about 35-40) laying in a coffin. Standing next to the coffin are a woman about the same age and two young boys (about 10). The caption says, "Your kids deserve a father that loves them."

I've seen people walk away from stores that have run out of the "more timid" photos instead of buying the ones with the bad pictures. I guess the pictures work.

Oh, and these ads are on American cigarettes too.

I wonder if the tobacco companys are putting these images on the packs or if distributors are putting them on?? Why would any business shoot hemselves in the foot like that??

adroomi - Good lord! To follow up on 03's question; Do you know if those pictures are put on the smokes by law? or is it "voluntary"?

For some reason I find this difference in labeling kind of facinating.

Maybe fast food restaurants should be forced to follow suit with pics of obese people, plus damaged hearts, livers, and kidneys.

Maybe booze should follow.

What's fair is fair.

Truth in advertising.

...scumbag lawyers...

Why don't they mind their own business and let us get what little pleasure we can out of life without making us all victims.

.....as long as my taxes are paying for someone else's medical bills, and/or I am forced to pay higher medical insurance costs due to people enjoying a known drug that MAKES YOU DIE who is the victim?

If a person can't pay their medical bills, isn't it irrelevant the cause? Sooner or later you're going to pay their bills, whether they die of lung cancer or mutiple schlerosis. In fact, you'll be paying those bills sooner with poor smokers which may save you money because probably health care will be more expensive in the future. Your future taxes will certainly be higher no matter what.

Wait a second....Democrats have been telling us for years that we need to elect them because people can't afford to pay for medicine....are you saying that I have been paying for it all along? 🙂

Is this the same adroomi who was telling me about the fattie he smoked the other day?

Cigarettes are subject to your tax dollar complaints, but the unfiltered 'lefties' are okay?

Hypocrite!
