I have a humidor that I used to store a sampler set of Acid cigars. Now the aroma of the Acid cigars is throughout the humidor and flavors anything else put into it. What can be done to eliminate some of the herbal aromas? Will a good airing out with it open for a few days do the trick?

You might want to try some Arm n Hammer baking soda in a shot glass or in a coffee cup depending on the size of humidor and strength of the odor, just place inside and close lid and check in 24 hours. JonR

I Agree WIth Rick. You Now Own A Acid,Lars Teaten Humidor.
I Would Not Put Real Cigars In That Humidor For Fear It Would Pick Up the Stink.

Those oils are fairly volatile and lose a lot over time. As a minority of one, I like Acids. I have had the aroma, which I like, get into my 'real' cigars. It made them smell a little sweeter but did not make them taste like Acids, even tho I would have liked that. Aromatic cigars in general do not have long humidor lives. Of course, if you hate the Acid aromas, send me the rest of the tin and leave that humidor lid open for a month or two in a drafty area.

It is contaminated, throw it away or trade it to somebody who smokes those Acid things! Charlie

I had an Acid cigar once, just once. I stored it for about a month in an old Padron box. That was over a year ago. I couldn't get the smell out of the box so I gave it to my wife to store odds and ends in. Her boss complained about an odd odor everytime she opened her desk drawer. We eventually burned the box as incense. LOL Barry

What size is the humidor, DLR? If it is a smaller one, keep it for storing acids and Lars. Smaller humidors are rock bottom on pricing right now so a replacement can be had inexpensively. If it is larger or sentimental etc, you might try sanding the interior or leaving open in the garage for a couple of months. However if the cigars were stored a while, than permutation/permeation is guaranteed and the humidor has outlived it's usefullness for regular cigars. I have had first hand experience with various wood types and odor absorption and seen some instances in where the smell never goes away. (for instance a motorhome that was stored for two years with food in the fridge while the owner was in litigation). The natural cherry cabinetry in the motorhome was permanantly imbedded with the rotton odor even several years later after being cleaned and the wood surfaces sanitized.

Wow, I'm glad I read this, I have just won an auction for a 5 pack of one of the ACID brand cigars(don't remember which one)as I have never smoked one. After reading whats' been written here I won't dare put any Acid in my humidor and possibly ruin over a years worth of my favorites just marrying each other.

Jazzman your right don't keep acids/lars in the same room with your real gars. In fact you should purchase a 2nd home for them. This will insure that the acid/lars don't contaminate your real cigars.

The only way to be absolutely sure is to send me all your Acids. I will store them and when you want one I will FedEx you one if there is any left. Out of a sense of fair play, I am making this an open offer to all posters to this board.

I have a smaller cheaper humidor that I use just for Acid's. As for your Humidor I would think that a good airing out and then a few days with a container of baking soda(dry) will help loads.

xibbumbero: As do I, actually its an air tight acrylic container I bought from Wally World (Wal-Mart). That way they don't "influence" my other stogies and I didn't put out much $$$ for it. Works great!

A buddy of mine gave me a Kona Chocolate something or other from Hawaii...I put it in my traveldor WHILE STILL IN THE TUBE...and this single cigar stunk it up for over 6 months. IOW, be careful with flavored cigars (BTW, I have some vanilla ones that don't do this). DH
