no need to destroy it ... it will collapse on its own ... in fact, if SS were a private plan offered by insurance companies on an OPTIONAL basis, the government would shut it down and put the perpetrators in jail ... the way it's being run, it's nothing more than a Ponzi scheme, all of which inevitably collapse like the house of cards they are.
Something should have been done to fix it a couple of generations ago, but it's a sacred cow no one has dared to talk about ...
I'm not sure I agree with the proposed privatization suggestions, but I DO know it's LONG past time for a serious discussion on how best to fix it or there's going to be a LOT of very unhappy people holding an empty bag ... and make no mistake about it, that won't be GWB's fault when it happens ... fault lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of all those who've been in Congress as well as all the presidents since the fifties when even a blind man could've seen the path we were headed down, but failed to utter a peep, let alone take any action.
GWB gets kudos from me for dragging this skeleton out of the closet and initiating the long overdue discussion of what the best means is to do something about it ...
