Eventually there will be a 6 DVD box set for all of the Star Wars movies.

In what order is one suppose to watch them?

IV, V, VI, I, II, III (release order)

or

I, II, III, IV, V, VI (chronological order)

Additionally, if three movies in a series is a Trilogy, what do you call it when there are six movies in a series?

I will always watch the movies as

IV, V, VI, I, II, III

The big surprise of the trilogy is that Vader is Luke's dad. This surprise is ruined if you watch the prequels first.

To me, IV, V, and VI will always be the "Star Wars Trilogy". The others are "Star Wars: Episode #".

I won't watch I or II ever again.

After seeing reviews and clips of III do I rescind the bounty that I placed on George Lucas being carbon froze and used as an ashtray by me.

Don't underestimate the power of the Force!

Ok, anyone know if there are any truths to the rumors that Lucas has plans for 3 "sequels" to the orginal Trilogy as well.

I think he mentioned them at one time, but has said more recently that this is it. No more.

Hard to believe that the good Dr. and myself would agree. Star Wars is a space cowboy movie and isn't very good at the Space or Cowboy parts.

The last three he will not do, but there is a 100 episode tv series in the works that deals with minor characters that takes place between Ep III and the original Star Wars - there is 20 years to play with there.

Although many people hate the idea of a TV series, I'm quite interested. What was it like for the average citizen living under the rule of the Empire? Was there an outcry from the general populace? What was the daily life of a non-political/non-jedi person?

I find these ideas very interesting.

When Episode I first came out, I'll admit I made excuses for it. I thought it was OK. I watched it again last night, and it was very very bad. Terrible! Episode II was decent enough, although quite slow moving.

Cex...when Lucas wanted to develop Happy Meal toy characters and leave the longtime fans questioning his sanity I knew he wasn't going to do the entire 9 movies. I viewed that as being a good thing too! He might let someone else do it...he's just said HE won't be doing it.

The tv show will probably fail as most tv shows that I like are too expensive to produce. The reamke of "Dark Shadows" was a beautiful show that was cancelled because of this...as was almost every "Star Trek"!

According to the word in these parts, there are plans to covert all 6 episodes to 3D but there is no longer any thought being given to developing the 3 sequels which George had originally envisioned ...

The three episodes in question (7, 8, 9) MAY be produced. yes, Lucas will not direct or produce them, but will have some type of say into them. The bulk of it is being done by one of his long time colleagues. I read the synopses for each, and they don't look too bad.

I own them all on DVD and the last two just didn't do it for me. I think that going backwards and starting from the "beggining" was a bad idea. It sucks watching I and II, and soon III, knowing how the whole thing works out in the end. Natalie Portman makes it all worth while. 🙂

I and II were'nt in a class as the original three, but I dont think they were all THAT bad.

Seeing Yoda whoppin around and kickin some ass at the end of Attack of the Clones was way to freakin kewl!

Beat, based on what I'm hearing, III is a LOT better than I or II, which really didn't live up to IV, V or VI ... take a look at today's MercNews for a couple of pretty good articles ...

I didn't think that episodes I and II were all that bad. But I knew that they would not live up to the original episodes. All three of the originals are, in my mind, untouchable. Even though the new episodes are the beginning of the story I could not help but look at them as sequels. They were a continuation of an idea that became a major piece of motion picture history. Maybe it is because I was a small child when the originals came out and the aura surrounding the first three movies just somehow seemed magical to me in some way, or maybe it is just because the first three were better movies. I don't know, but as far as I was concerned, there was no way that the originals were going to be equalled. This was my opinion going into the movie theaters to watch episodes I and II, and this will be my opinion going to see episode III. I own all five of the movies on DVD and the original three on VHS and I will buy episode three. If I already have five of them, I may as well buy the sixth.

Sorry for the long winded post.

A sextology? Damn, that sounds like... nevermind.

I'd watch it chronologically. That'd be pretty cool.

ONe of the reasons that he made I,II,and III, was that people weren't getting the major theme of the movie which is to say that the movies aren't about Luke Skywalker, they are about the rise, fall, and ultimate redemtion of Anakin Skywalker. It's an archetypal theme that I am extremely interested in and I think it is interesting to play with. Can a man who was once good be forgiven despite a series of bad mistakes and ultimate evil? What would it take for example for us to forgive someone like Charlie Manson?

Unfortunately, the episodes I and II are awful. In the first, Jar Jar Binks was so annoying that I didn't care what happened to any of them despite some good acting from Liam Neeson, Ewen McGregor, and the young kid. In the second, the action was better the feel of the movie was serious, but the acting by Hayden Christianson was downright laughable. He is so bad in this movie that it makes my skin crawl. He is supposed to come off as a person turning toward evil, but I just get the impression of a spoiled rich kid pouting about life not being fair. Hopefully in the third he will have polished up his acting chops or the prequels will be totally unwatchable.

The Empire Strikes Back will always be my favorite episode. Just something about it. I have tickets to the midnight showing that starts in 11 1/2 hrs from now and call me what you will, lol, but I'm leaving now to go see how the line is. I hate movie theatres because of the crowds, but there is nothing like having the entire theatre cheer like they did in Ep 2 when Yoda pulled out is lightsaber. Anyone want a report of the movie? All details aside of course.

Just like a lot of other Star Wars' geeks out there, I will be watching the midnight showing of Episode III tonight.
