Thats it, I've been convinced. I'm not watching, reading, or listening to anything that has the nerve to cover any subject but the nations most pressing problems on it.

one needs a certain levity to keep one sane.

if you are refering to my post about the tv programs, the viewers will write or call the station to complain before they call their representative or senator to complain about serious issues.

Rick,

Have you ever considered where most people fall in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Most people aren't able to be in the frame of mind to worry about politics and the conditioin of their country. What they can do is go to work, raise their family, and worry about the immediate comfort before their next day. maybe thats all they can do, on same days thats all I can do. You condemn as in your post above. The Average person does a good job simply surviving the day, gets their information from the local paper and the local news, and is more concerned with having a good time between shifts.

up until now maslow's hierarchy of needs has never crossed my mind. i never heard of it and thanks for the new information.

i have always thought that the man that gets up in the morning and goes to a job he hates because he wants to provide for his family, as a real hero, a man of substance. he grinds and hopes the week will end before his money does.

how does that make my "call the station to complain before they call their representative or senator to complain about serious issues" less truthful.

i didn't see humor as a relief mentioned in the pyramid unless novelty is his refrence to humor, and i take exception to some of his order of needs.

for example i put love before safety. if a wife or child were in a burning building most husbands would go into the fire.

i understand the phrase self-actualization but that is contrary to what you have said. "the average person does a good job simply surviving the day," when would the average perso have time to reach any potential.

Saftey has do to with providing for the basics of life. Food, water, shelter, protection, etc. Self survival on a daily basis would come first for most before looking for a mate. Protecting that mate is a different story. My point being that for many that I know calling a senator is far beyond what they think about daily because it does not effect them immediatly were as the tv show does. It seems to me that you expect more out of many people then they can give on a daily basis.
