I love coffee. Who doesn't? I've seen postings of people talking about what type and kind of coffee they were drinking and loving it. Where do you get your coffee? Do you roast your own? What type of coffee is better for your palate?

I also enjoy roasting my own beans too when time permits.

Slim, I think my I-roast runs hot. I use

320 -2mins

365 -3mins

385 -10mins

140g batches

Anything over 385 in the last stage ends up with a dark roast in 6-7 minutes. With this profile, I can stretch the roast to 8-9 minutes and achieve the roast level I like. I put 10 mins in the last stage and stop it where I like it. This prevents the fan from cycling into low RPM mode, which causes the roast to again progress too quickly. Perhaps my apartment complex has a higher voltage in the outlets... I noticed roasts going too quickly in my poppers of the old days.

As far as my favorite origins:

Papa New Guinea

Kenya AA

Sumatra Mandy

Etheopian Yerg

I roast my own. No machines for me. Stainless steel mixing bowl and a heat gun (no joke). I gotta see the beans roasting. I think it is the cheapest and most effective roasting method I've tried so far. If you're a beginner and want to try your hand at roasting, it is a good entry point.

Some favorites are Ethopian Yirgacheffe, Kenya AA, most Sumatrans, etc. I just picked up a pound of Indian Monsooned green beans the other day. For a green bean, these things already look roasted. Cant wait to roast some and try it out.

Hey Thom,

There is a local coffee company here in the Tri-Cities. I work with the owner. She has some pretty good blends. I will try and hook you up with some.

Jay;

I love Caribou Coffee. The reason I like to fly on vacation is that we get to stop at the Caribou in the Minneapolis airport. We usually have Columia from them at home (because it is a lighter blend and that is what Tiff likes).

I like that blend as well. My favorites from Sweet Marias so far have been Indian Pearl Mountain Estate, Most of the Kenyans, Sumatrans and One from El Salvador. Try their samplers.

I used to roast in a popcorn popper but had problems geting towards the second crack (god I hope that doesn't get censored). Turns out it was a voltage issue in my basement, but in the mean time I got a freshroast machine. Simple and good.

I am not a Starbucks fan either. There is a small family owned coffee shop I go to, Shoemaker & Hardt

They have about 4 stores or so and have their own blend that is MUCH BETTER than starbucks.

So if you are ever in the Plano Texas area, look em up.
