No andy... that catfish would've TAKEN your rod. This was in a northern Thailand village and they caught it with a net... and a whole bunch of people pulling, I would presume.

I love Catfish.. you gotta know how to flush them to get the best flavor from the meat...

didn't read the article... but the Pekin Lock and Damn(Illinois River) as I was growning up... the story was welders came to the surface and said they couldn't pay them enough money to stay down there?? I know and seen for fact from a group of guy's who noodled as chipslave said above.. cought 50-75 lb catfish from Rivers.Lakes and Ponds around Illinois...

My hatred of catfish is rooted deep in my psyche.......I grew up fishing the Indian River, which is NOW a great inshore fishery. Back then, though, it was overfished commercially, so quite often, a long and hard day fishing would only result in several "hardheads" (catfish).

These are poorly regarded w.r.t. table fare, and they had a tendency to impale your hands/feet/whatever with their spikes. I just HATED these friggin things.

I also think they are ugly.
