OK.............so I just hung up a nice new cotton rope hammock under my Chestnut trees.

I love this thing, but then I read that you shouldn't leave it outside since moisture can wreck the cotton rope.

Hmmmmm.............. What is wrong with this picture. A lazy afternoon in my hammock just isn't gonna be the same if I have to unhook everything and haul it back down to the house after using it. THEN, if I feel like lazing around for a while, I have to haul it up to my trees and hook it up again.

Does anyone know of a preservative for cotton rope...........one that won't stain clothes?

A good quality rope will last for years. Don't worry about it.

andytv,

There some stuff that you can buy at sporting goods stores that is used to waterproof/seal camping equipment and such. That would probably be better than nothing.

Just a thought.

I have had a cotton hamock for years and I only take it down in the winter time. Mine has been hanging outside in rain too, you know the summer or freak rains. The only thing that the cotton is doing after the many years is it does look like it is flaking a little, but it still is in strong shape. Until I lay on it and I fall through, all is well, heheheeee!
