I enjoy several of these "new" large gauge smokes. Most cutters dont work. How do you snip these darn things.. My best luck has been with a one sided razor blade but I f$#@ up a I/T Gorilla up last night that really ticked me off.

I don't have a gorilla to check it with, but the Stackhouse cutter CI sells is slightly larger than A Xikar. So if you have one of those, go about 1 ring gauge higher.

Actually ... get the Swiss Army Knife. It is up there with the best cutters made (many say it is the best), and will cut any size cigar. The neat thing about them, is is you can trim the cut with it until you get it right, down to the finest slice.

Pretty incredible blade on those SAF's, really sharp too!

They do make large guage guillotine cutters. You could also use a puncher. Maybe you don't like a puncher. So, to answer your question: I use a guillotine cutter and just take off the very end. If they are too fat for that I use a serrated Kitchen Knife. So, Buy yourself a new cutter or use a punch or use a knife.
I have a new question. What would be the problem with lighting the cigar backwards. I do it a lot with small gauge cigars. Then you can just burn the cap off.

I use a puncher for those biggies ... I've now got one that makes an unusually large hole, but before that, I made 3 overlapping holes in the cap of those really big ring-gaugers ... that worked quite satisfactorily, but in your circumstances, think I might give Slim's Swiss Army knive a try ...

Dont really want to buy a new cutter, love my Xikar.. I'm gonna try smokin one backwards.. just kinda feels wrong.. ya know ? Yes, I know this subject has been brought up before but I think the time elapsed allows the question again.. Are cigars rolled/filled (whatever) to be smoked from the "right" end ? Maybe this should be a new thread?

The SAK is more than just a cutter, and if you bid on them here ... you can get them for a steal! Its got about 10 other functions ... and comes in really handy.

If you don't like Xikar use a V-cutter or a cigar punch. Given any circumstance...I'm covered! Worth the investment.

I agree with slim, the swiss army knife cigar cutter is my favorite cutter. I've been using mine for almost two years. It's still razor sharp and works great.

I like the Partagas Black Label, all large ring gauge, the La Glora Serie R also and I use a Xikar. You might try a Samarui Sword...........:):):) Charlie

Every once in awhile, CB will auction off those retangle Teakwood V-Cutters (they call 'em hardwood). Out of the several I've used ... that one is by far the best. It is surgical steel, and razor sharp. It's also the deepest V-cut I've ever seen ... and really nice looking!

Hey Cayman, I personally have never had a problem cutting any large-ring gauge cigar with any of my Xikars...I only need to expose the leaves (cutting the extreme top of the head) to be able to enjoy the cigar...You just have to push the Xikar down a little hard (don't worry, you're not going to ruin the cigar) just before snipping the head...Lemme know if this helps

I have to back up rookie on his call. I use my Xikar to cut any ring guage, even my IT gorillas and my La Gloria Serie R No 6's. You just need to open up the filler, not cut off an inch. Don't smoke cigars backwards, the bands don't add anything to the flavour.
