I bought a box of these from CBID for 40 bucks a few weeks ago and am smoking my first on e as I write this.

I am very impressed with the smoke for the $$. Since CBid offers these so often, I figured it couldn't hurt to sing their praises a bit on the ol forum. Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?

not too crazy about them. the draw a bit of a fight and the taste just nothing to write home about. i have four in my humi if you would like. they are figurados, 54 ring 6 long.

Really? The draw was one of the most impressive parts about the one I just smoked.

like smoking through a straw actually. almost too easy for a wide ring gar, but all in all a very good smoke.

This one got a 2 inch ash on it twice as well. Guess they must vary. Hope the rest of my box is more like mine and not like yours! ;o)

Cheers.

I have noticed there seem to be two types of 5 Vegas': very good ones...and VERY bad ones. Lately I have received bad ones that have a more greenish wrapper. I prefer the darker sumatra wrapper. Let me know when CI gets more of the darker wrapper torps.

I won these about two week ago and the whole box looks the same as the one I smoked today.

5 vegas are worth every penny and they only get better with age. I have a box of dbl coronas that I have been working on for three years and they have turned out to be a great smoke. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Do they make 'em in maduro?

I am partial to Maduros myself, and I don't know if they make these in that wrapper. I have not seen any on the site. I have to say though the wrapper used on the ones I have is a nice dark, oily cameroon that looks and tastes really good.

Hmmm...One second glance, maybe its a Sumatra wrapper I have here...either way, very nice indeed.

I have a few 5 Vegas Pyramides that are just taking up room in the humidor. Anyone want 'em? Wrong forum but I'll trade 'em. These seemed to really load up the longer I smoked them, probably due to the tapered shape. I just couldn't find the enjoyment in these. I'll probably bid on some torpedos and give them a shot. the pyramides had potential, just not for me.

What I meant about the wrappers was one 5-pack would have the good wrappers and the later 5-pack was terrible. But the "good" 5 Vegas" was excellent, one of my top 10.

The Torpedo received a 90 on CA's ratings section, and the user input was equally high. Thats what prompted me to bid on them in the first place and I have found them to be well within that range.

I just smoked a second one from my box of 20 and it was just as good as the first.

I won a box of churchills @ $1 each about eight months ago and have three left. I thought I would eventually take to 'em because there was nothing bad about 'em. But I never did. I think that's because there is nothing good about them. That's a shame because they can be picked up for a good price. Maybe the other shapes bring more to the table. I'll trade them for other shapes.(Yeah, I see Slim in the catbird's seat).

I can only comment on the Torpedo, and that one is definitely a bargain at 40 bucks a box.

The 90 rating CBID refers to in all their 5 Vegas auctions is for the Torpedo I believe. With so many other brands in my humidors, I don't plan to try any other shapes from this brand, but I might very well get another box of the torpedos when these are gone. However, since I am planning to age these for a spell, that will be a long time from now, so by all means, bid away! :o)

goose, I have tried the 5 Vegas coronas and the pyramides and the draw was consistently so tight I could not smoke them. They became mulch after a year or so. But the torpedos are IMHO very good and very consistent. I have a full box that has been resting for about a year, so tomorrows golf sounds like a good time to break out a couple. Before they were "discovered" again a few months ago they sold for less, but still good at $40.

I have been smoking them for years. The torps, coronas and Churchills. Never had a tight draw or any problems. The Vintage Selection is even better, they come in a nice red box that looks too good to throw out when it is empty.
Dang prices will go up again! Can't you guys stop writing good reviews about my cigars.

Sorry about that chief! ;o)

I figured that since CBID sells these so often it couldn't hurt to talk them up a bit. I still wrestle with that fine line between getting a good deal/wanting to keep a great smoke a secret and helping to support our good friends at CBID with some positive word of mouth.
