Wanyburger came back for a 'pit stop'.

I know that E-Chick asked about him (I don't know if she saw his post, as she didn't comment), and I mentioned in an eariler thread that he did not post much anymore becasue of the BS, and was quickly shot down by many, and was told that was not the case.

Consider this re-post of his message 'self-gratification' if you like, but I believe his message deserves to be heard again. I made it a little easier to read ... and am quoting him verbatim ...

"I really have been enjoying the Fittapaldi cigars lately. I could be wrong, but I think it is a H2000 wrapper. Not sure if that what is doing it for me. They seem to smoke real well, and by that I mean they burn cool and straight. Like most smokes they get a little bitter half way through, but I am becoming more and more accepting to cigars crapping out early as there as so few in this bastardized market that actually hold my interest (my taste buds that is) through the final inches. (my wife says the same about me)...

While I am on that subject, I find that on any given day I can grab one of those Canaria D’oro turds with no label out of my humidor and smoke that to my finger tips and it taste as good as when it started. For the life of me I don’t understand why they don’t make this smoke anymore. It is so tasty, and so cheap. I probably answered my own question. Seems like a fancy label and a fake dye job are what makes a cigar premier and or popular these days and not the quality of the cigar.

I guess we can also apply the same logic to some of the people that post on this site lately. I don’t get it gang. What the hell has been going on here? It seems like every time I check in, with hopes to see quality conversation, my disappointment grows. And for those who don’t know me, and don’t care, stop reading now I’ll save you my sermon on the soapbox. (I knew you would continue though) ...

Anyway, this site more and more resembles one of those books you find on the check out line of a supermarket. Don’t get me wrong, the humor and chiding and such is fun, but the soap opera dramas are ridiculous. What the hell did that woman (e-chick) write? Half way through her farewell address, I called my doc and asked him to prescribe me some anti depressants. I don’t know about you, but as a consumer and or hobbyist the last thing I want to read when I log on is this kind mindless BS drivel. She doesn’t need a cigar forum, she needs a friend or hell maybe a good shrink, definitely a stiff drink and **** maybe a stiff… well let’s move on ...

I want to read about cigars and everything related. I want to listen to opinions of those that smoke cigars. I want to enjoy the company of those who want to share their perspectives, ideas and experiences about the hobby and occasionally about their life outside of the cigar world. I want to call out the idiots who do not know a damn thing about this wonderful hobby in hopes to further educate them.

Many of you do this real well in your own way. I think that is what makes us memorable to some and forgettable to others. But you can’t become forgettable without being memorable. I know many of us use this forum to practice humor, writing skills, taking frustrations of home or work out on invisible people, or to see how much they can embarrass someone, brag, or maybe to justify their existence. Who the hell knows, but at the end of the day this group needs to decide whether or not to hold each other accountable to maintaining the credibility of this site.

The more and more garbage subject matter you let in, the less cigar people you will attract. Subsequently, the board will look less and less like it did 1-2 years ago. By the way, if that’s what the people here what to do, it is not necessarily a bad thing. Who knows maybe there is just no more to say about cigars.

Something tells me though that there is enough dissention among those who seemed to like the way it used to be, to address the problem. I really enjoyed this forum during the time I participated on a regular basis. I appreciate and respect many of the folks here (too many to name) and appreciate the times you’ve asked about me and my whereabouts. My reasons for not participating here have less to do with my new family and more to do with the type of conversation that takes place here. Too much crap to file through to get to one good thread.

It’s just too much. I can spend an hour on this site and find one good conversation where as a year ago I could have five good conversations in one hour all at the same time. I will always stick my head in from time to time to see what’s going on. Hopefully I can do it more often. In the meantime, best regards to my friends here. Your “pens” are as sharp as ever. I would be hard pressed to challenge many of you today. I beg of you to give me reason to try."

All the best –

Ryan

I apologize if this is old news to everyone here ...

But I for one, understand exactly where he is coming from, and agree with him 100% ... for what it's worth.

That's all ... and would like to see more of the 'oldbies' come back ...

Today's FNGs are tomorrow's FOGs. New friendships are forming today that will be old friendships next year. Someone will read a discussion of cello on/cello off for the very first time today and will learn something. Many will drop out, some will stay, some will leave and come back. A 13-year old kid with pimples will post another photo stolen from a soft-porn archive and claim he is she and inspire a hundred posts declaring alpha-male arousal. A strange angler will show up and attempt to poison the waters and many cigarfish will rise to the bait. I will write that my favorite cigar is an Excalibur III in natural and that it sometimes disappoints me and you will pat your Cuban-filled humidor and wonder what the hell is wrong with that guy. The hi-jacks, the wisecracks, the groaners, moaners and pretended boners are just sidetracks along the way of the internet cigar smoker. You know, this thread isn't really about cigars, either.

Sounds like Ryan's message here, is he meant it to be about cigars ...
Slimboli

And now that I think about it ... maybe it isn't 'just' about cigars, since you may be refering to why I created this thread, and re-posted Ryan's message.

I agree with Ryan when he said,

" ... but at the end of the day this group needs to decide whether or not to hold each other accountable to maintaining the credibility of this site.

It does have a great deal to do with keeping the credibility of this site intact. That's why I joined this forum in the first place. Heck, if you don't want to have quality conversation about cigars, on a cigar site ... there are hundreds of BB's to chose from where you can fulfill your fantasies ...

It's like joining a Motorcycle Club, and wanting to talk Orchids. Sure, once in awhile ... but the focus should be on why you joined the club in the first place ... and that's why most folks come here, to talk cigars.

And Ryan made it quite clear why he doesn't post here much anymore ... and I'm sure many of the guys from years back that no longer post will say the same.

Slim, it isn't that I disagree with your sentiments or Ryans. This fish is always going to have bones in it. It's like the poker player who knew the game was crooked, but he kept coming back because it was the only game in town. JRBB is still full of "Connies suck" after all these years. HP is tough to stomach. Some of those posts would make the chick blush or throw up maybe. (I said maybe. How the hell do I know.)Anyway, they do me. But I visit both and take what I can, laugh when I can, leave what I can behind. I say the glass is half full. What say ye?

Ever hear of Barnes &
Nobles?

They've got plenty of good books written about cigars and cigars alone -
however, none of which have a personality and much of a diversified opinion
about every aspect of a cigar, let alone the individual traits of those of us
that enjoy cigars.

  • Aside
from the books (most of which are boring, bland and tend to be like some
posts on here - closed-minded and over-opinionated) some of you may also
desire to purchase monthly magazines regarding the affections of cigars
... open the pages and what do you see?
Different opinions - promotions for certain cigars, solely a
one-sided conversation and you're not able to provide effective feedback
to either the magazine or the book - and last but not least ... lot's of
advertisements from anything from Viagra to Herbal Stallion and Hair Loss
prevention tablets that you take once a day (I think that’s why Rick buys
these – for the discreet shipping of products).  You'll also see cufflinks, tie-clasps, and cheap $10.00
    shoes advertised for only $59.99.

  • I
don't know about all of YOU - but I simply turn the page and move on if I
don’t like the article or the advertisement.  If, by the time I reach the last page, I have read one
unbiased review (several inputs on the same subject or same cigar), or one
well written post regarding a particular subject that sparks my interest, I
consider myself fortunate to not necessarily have learned something new, but
rather gain a better understanding of others who enjoy cigars and the
ability to use my own judgment to either agree or disagree with them.

  • IMHO
    - I would rather light up a Lone Wolf with a warm glass of beer amongst a
group of friends than waste an Perdomo (my favorites) or a Tetan and a
single malt scotch amidst a group pompous jackasses that feel that they
and they alone control the world of etiquette regarding cigars. style="mso-spacerun: yes">  I also wonder, regarding some of the
posts I read whether or not some individuals actually smoke the cigars
they claim on a daily basis.  Just
because you LIKE the cigar, doesn’t mean you can find it, and it certainly
doesn’t mean your finances allow you to smoke it every day like some
    claim.  C’mon – this isn’t high
school and NOBODY on the internet has yet to impress me – remember – it IS
the internet.  On here, we’re ALL
RICH, YOUNG, HANDSOME/BEAUTIFUL, have FIVE CARS, three MOTORCYCLES, etc., …..
    WHATEVER !!!!!  I personally don’t
care – and if that’s what keeps the little ‘clicks’ together here in
thinking they control the board – then so be it – if you’re that damn
    correct 100% of the time:

  • Why
    are you here.

  • Why
    don’t YOU own CigarBid.

  • Why
don’t you start your OWN forum on your OWN server with ALL of YOUR peers
    and wannabe’s

    And - just so
you know - I've never smoked a Lone Wolf nor have I wasted a cigar for pomp
& circumstance.

To each his own - live, smoke, enjoy it before it kills you - and if you
can look back and smile at one thing in life - and it happens that it's your
choice of obstacles to cross and which mountain to climb or which bridge you
burnt intentionally that makes you the happiest - then you have succeeded at
life.

If, when you die like all of is will, someone on this board, or some
acquaintance from someone outside of your family takes the time to light up a
stick and think "here's to ya" - even though they may never have met
you - you still live on somewhere - when I go - as long as nobody smokes a Lone
Wolf on my occasion - I'll be happy.

So, to make a long story short:

  • you
    can't change a book by it's cover

  • you
always have to wade though a pile of sh*t to get where you want in life

  • it's
your choice on where you want to go and what you want to believe

  • you
have the freedom to choose your friends

  • style='color:blue'>if you don't like any of the above - I feel sorry for
you because you must be one truly miserable SOB and that helps to explain
some of the posts here a cbid

What's your point?

For someone to aspire for a more intellectual, thorough discussion about our love of cigars without someone inundating it with endless sexual inuendos that are predictable and monotonous is wrong?

Mr. Mean

my thoughts... if anyone cares

Everyone has a right to their own opinion as to what they want from this board, what is on this board, and who posts on this board. But since this is a public board no one person has the ability to stifle anyone else’s posts unless the system administrator deems them inappropriate. Therefore everyone has the right to b*tch about someone else, ignore or choose to respond to someone who's b*tching about them, and discuss what they please.

The underlying theme of this board is cigars; everyone on this board should either smoke cigars or enjoy the company of cigar smokers. Since most of us seem to be dynamic individuals I think we can handle conversations that do not directly correlate to cigars. These topics have ranged from coffee to whiskey and generally include whatever comes to mind when reading the various posts. But when it all comes down to it we all love cigars and have other things to talk about as well, and may want opinions or insight from our smoking brethren.

If anyone doesn't like the diversity of conversations on the board then don't read them, reply and state your opinion, or go elsewhere, which wany has chosen to do, if others feel the same you’re free to leave as well.

But this is just my opinion, and I welcome everyone and anyone else to rip it to shreds, or to stand behind it. I honestly don’t give two sh*ts which you choose to do... chris

Spot-on, Chris & Jimmy ... well and eloquently stated.

If the whole bunch of us were sitting in a large cigar store with a lot of comfortable club chairs, there'd be various groups of us conducting diverse conversations ... each of those conversations would have a life of it's own, taking one turn and then another, few, if any, remainng "on-thread" ... conversations just don't work that way.

I'm glad to see others agree with me ... we're a large and diverse enough group that there will not be unanimous agreement on ANYthing, but you know, that's what makes this site so dynamic ... I would hope, however, that opinions could be expressed, agreed or disagreed with, but personal attacks have to be avoided ... that is one thing that can be depended on to drive a great many of us away to stay ...

Jimmy, I know I'm a goofy f^@k, and my question was not about me. I asked, what is you point.

I like everyone here. But I think Jimmy has a much better point than Wanyburger. If wanyburger wants to drop by once in a while to complain about things changing then, he can. But if he wants to take an active role in the forums credibility he will gain more respect from me.
