I'm heading to Oahu later this month and was hoping to get some updated info. I was stationed there from 91 - 97 and I'm sure there have been some changes since I left. Just wondering if there are any new cigar friendly hangouts. I like the Aloha Tower marketplace and will definitely visit the Gordon Biersch brewery. Any other recommendations?

was there in Feb for Pro Bowl. go to HAWAIIAN BEACH HOTEL, from 5-7 MAI TAIS only $2.50. I guarentee that on $15.00 you'll crawl back home. Besides that you'll take in a BEAUTIFUL SUNSET on their Veranda.

Yes, Waikiki can be lots of fun, but if you've got the time then get out of that concrete jungle and see the real Hawaii! The windward side and the North Shore are great places to indulge in a smoke outdoors. If you are looking for clubs and tobacco shops, check the yellow pages. There are a few tobacco shops with lounges to hang out in. My pick would be for Havana Cabana, a cigar bar in Chinatown in Downtown Honolulu. It's a small little place with great food, great drinks, a walk-in humidor and awesome live music at night. Usually local music or Latin music in a kick-back atmosphere. Wish I was going. Try Haleakala and a Vegas Robainas at sunrise. You can find just about any cigar brand due to the tourist trade, and the crater is awesome! Of course, you can go to one of the active volcanoes, no matches needed.

Hawaii was lots of fun. Didn't have time to make it to all the places I would like to have. You know, had to compromise with the family and all. They would have gotten a little irate if I had spent all my time in search of smoke shops and such. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. I took along a box of Hemingway short stories and a handfull of CAO Golds. Between me, my brother and my son, we managed to smoke most of them. I took along a couple of Hemingway masterpieces (9 x 52) but I just couldn't bring myself to smoke 'em. Some of these threads have asked about a good drink that compliments cigars - here is my recommendation. A nice cup of Hawaiin coffee with a couple of shots of Baileys Irish Cream and a Hemingway short story. Now, you take them and you go outside your cabin on the beach in Hawaii and enjoy a nice peaceful sunrise. Everyone sigh and say aaaaaahhhhhhhhh.

Just curious...did you stay in Kaneohe? I stayed in the cabins there at the MCAS a few years ago. Something like 30 bucks a day. It was the most beautiful setting and boy did I feel safe with all those U.S. Marines around! HOORAH!

Too bad that Havana Cabana place is closed.

Too bad you can't find a cabin on the beach for $30/day.
