No company will display PETA’s ‘baby’ billboard
Animal advocacy group planned to put up ad comparing eating meat to local baby’s death.

DAYTON — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will not put up a planned billboard that linked a mother’s microwaving of her 28-day-old baby with the cooking of meat.

PETA failed to find a billboard company that would accept the message.

“We understand why our message — that most of the animals killed for human consumption are innocent babies who feel pain and fear just as humans do — might be upsetting,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a Tuesday email. “We encourage anyone who is troubled by the comparison between a baby human and a baby pig to clear their conscience by adopting a humane, vegan diet.”

China Arnold, 31, was convicted May 13 of the aggravated murder of her infant daughter, Paris Talley, who died in a microwave oven in 2005. Friday, a jury declined to recommend the death penalty for Arnold. Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman sentenced her to life without parole.

PETA’s plans drew outrage from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which said the ad compared black people to animals.

The billboard was to feature two images: a mother pig nuzzling her piglet and a person about to place a pork chop in a microwave oven. The text reads “Everybody’s Somebody’s Baby. Go Vegan.”

“That’s very good,” Bishop Richard Cox, president of the SCLC’s Dayton chapter, said upon hearing the news that the proposed billboard would not appear. Cox has been a staunch defender of Arnold, saying he believes she is innocent.

“This is good news for China Arnold and the African-American community,” he said.

PETA has truly lost its way. I fully understand why they started and there was some merit. They no longer have a real purpose because laws have been enacted to cover most cruelty. So, they have to do something to keep getting donations and padding their personal checkbooks. One more organization overtaken by the lust and greed for money and power....

I love animals......I like them more than most humans. I have cats and a dog and have all my life. I don't hunt because I don't enjoy killing animals. With all that said...I fully support hunter's rights and I couldn't be more of a meat eater. Not real wild about fur but won't throw blood on someone for wearing it. I support wildlife conservation groups but would NEVER support these wack jobs. They make those of us who act like we have some sense look bad. Fuq em.
