Ok, you asked for it.
Home grown cuban seed tobacco. Harvested 9/2010 and hung to dry for 6 months.
Then carefully remoistened and rolled entubar style into a corona....my favorite vitola.
I skipped the fermenting step, because I have no idea how to do it.

Prelight aroma was a faint sweet tobacco smell, and a firm draw. Feels well-rolled. Some veins are apparent and the color is a bit blonde. Let's see if this one has more fun.

Lit with a match, well two matches actually. Still drawing firm. A decent amount of smoke and it has the aroma of very mild tobacco, so far so good. Hey, I am not expecting a Padron here.
The ash is dark gray and holding on pretty well. Just needed one minor touch-up with my lighter as a canoe threatened to join the party.
The smoke smelled a bit of burning wood and leaves, but not bad really.

The problem was the mouth feel and flavor. It tasted like you had licked your burning apartment door both during and after the fire. Acrid, bitter, harsh, unpleasant. And it wasn't getting better. So, after a third, I lay my project down forever into my flowerpot of dead soldiers. At least it will RIP in the company of some finer stix I have known.

I do have a second growth of tobacco growing nicely. For this next crop, I WILL learn to ferment the leaves before rolling and smoking them.

Yes, clearly the fermenting stage is critical.

As it turns out, the growing and rolling parts are quite easy.

Nat, you might try the tobacco in a pipe sometime. I've known guys to grow their own for this purpose and it sometimes works out....sort of. Also, remember that most of the cigars you like use tobacco leaves that have been aged for several years. It's tough being patient, that's why I make beer and not wine! LOL!

...BTW- great pic, bro!

I've been entertaining the thought of "Growing and Rolling My Own" as well. Glad to see that someone has tried it. I would only undertake this sort of project as a learning experiment - which I'm sure you did as well. Trying to do something yourself often gives one a new found appreciation for the amount of skill and effort that goes into the finer product specimens in a given industry or market...

Let us know how the next one goes!

Here come the Hawks, the mighty Blackhawks...

Congrats to the Boston Bruins. An original six team should win it most every year!
