When I was 15 I remember sneaking one of my dads many cigars out of his colllection, inahling it and obviously getting sick, then I started smoking cigarettes when I was 18. I recently started enjoying cigars...how they were meant to be about 2 years ago oddly enough while at a duty free store in Canada, looking to stock up on liqour and my love for them continues to grow. Just wondering how everyone was introduced to cigars.

Playing poker and drinking beer one night. Good friend (kwenner) gave me a Partagas Black. Life hasn't been the same ever since.

Haven't smoked a Party Black in a really long time. May need to hunt one down and smoke it for old times sake.

Sitting on the porch with my pops when I would come home on leave. Never really took an interest back then but now that he's gone I smoke daily.

Junior year of college, a bunch of my engineering buddies and my self took EALC 150( intro to Japaneese culture), it was a 1 o'clock, none of us had a class before, so we'd meet at murphy's pub, down a burger and a beer, then go smoke padron's before class. Good times. . .

Well.. could it have been the black n milds that I use to get when I was 19 after dropping my girlfriend off, and smoke on the 30minute ride home. That certainly started part of it to where a while after, I happened to walk into a cigar shop and get a few and enjoyed. Never got into them much until 2 years ago, after I got rid of my ex, and my new woman doesn't mind cigars. Wonder if she knew it'd lead to 2 desktop humis on the buffet table and the tuppador in the bedroom closet ? so, guess I discovered them myself.. not as cool as some the other stories, but i like it.

I had tried them when I was a teen. Swisher Sweets.

Then nothing until I turned 40. On a whim I stopped in a shpo looking for something to celebrate my birthday. I left with CAO Flavours, Acids, Macanudos, Bering Candelas, Cohiba Red Dots and Partagas. I smoked my way through most of them with Grumpie's help and then my fate was sealed by a competitor's catalog.

Pipe smoking has a little different and more complicated story that I won't go into here.

I got started on cigars back in '98 while stationed at MCAS Yuma. I was doing a lot of bass fishing and between that and time in the field doing training exercises I wanted something to enjoy during the down time. There was a gun shop across from the main gate that I frequented that also had a decent cigar selection. Guns and cigars in the same store, what a concept right?

I only dabbled back then, but during my deployment to Iraq in '09-'10 my wife sent a sampler for my birthday. The rest is history.

On return one year form his annual Caribbean trip my dad shared a Don Tomas Sngrown cigar with me. The time we spent talking was the first in a long time. After that it became a ritual of sorts. I guess you could say cigars saved our relationship. To this day I can honestly say some of my fondest memories of my dad were the times we talked, laughed and cried together over a great cigar.

When I was 16 a friend gave me a black and mild. We thought we were so bleeping cool. Losers. Went into a local shpo on my 18th birthday and found a great shop owner that showed me the ins and outs of cigars. Smoked off and on for a couple years, then really picked up the hobby again about 2 years ago.

Back in my early 20's I was a heavy equipment operator, our foreman Kenny (dayum, I remembered his name) would carry around a cigar. He wouldn't light it until the job was complete.

For the longest time I assoc. cigar smoking with special events, finishing a project, or the golf course.

Last couple years has become more of a relax, me time, hangin with friends.

Good idea for a thread.

My entrance was in Eastern Europe while in the military. A few guys pulling guard would smoke while patrolling, breaking light discipline. I was having difficulty staying awake one night and my team leader offered me a smoke. The cigar: good ol' Swishers. It wasn't until I got back to the States did I start enjoying handmades.

I figured there would be some good stories out there. Amazing how many different ways one is turned on to cigar and the good times that are shared while lighting one up. Everytime my dad comes down to visit well smoke together...good times.
