Lets see how long or if I can even get this finished.

Pic on left is the inside of the top of the ice box. I dont know what material is on the inside and I think it's painted white. So, I'll have to strip it off.

Be carefull. Unless its a later reproduction that's lead paint you'll be stripping. Better to "encapsulate" it. Paint with enamel and line with cedar after its cured well. Just sayin.

Especially if you have kids around, they are most affected by lead.

Not sure when it was painted inside, think in the 90s when my step granfather restored it.

Just saw nearly a step by step refurbish the other day -- through a google search. I think I looked up "humidor conversions" or something like that. It was very informative, I know that. Good luck! It'll be great looking and performing (I'll bet) when you're done.

Wow! looks great. I have always wanted a large cabinet/refrigerator sized Ice chest. They are old and sturdy as hell, but look expensive. The lead paint worries me. You know the Romans went mad because they used led to make their water pipes and had lead poisoning. I would get that dealt with. If you choose to use a product to coat it you really need to find one with no VOC in it. I'm not a enviro-nazi, but for the sake of your gars you want something that does not give off any sort of vapor.

Well, Advojp gave me a great link to get a good idea on something. Seen a couple now with help of google where the inside is gutted out... taking out that tin.. and then replacing it with cedar.

Guess I'll have to get started on finding cedar...
