Just throwing it out there, anyone interested I have quite a few of these, certified by NGC. This coin is how I became the Numismaniac, hehe.

Long story, one day I'll write it up, this is a decent buy it now price, although when they were new and hot, we got more than that for some. I have other error coins as well, but this is the one I have the most of.

I do have the Missing Edge Lettered Adams Dollar as well as a few of the George Washington Missing Edge lettering

disclaimer: the coins I have are the same grade, and also NGC, this is not my ebay acct. Mine is numismaniacmsc. I have nothing on fleabay right now, never sold coins there, the dealer who paid me to search them out sold some of them, and died before he could replace them, I sort of got burned, but c'est la vie.

Send a PM, willing to work with someone in any way possible

Hell, I'll even write up the story and put it with the coin as provenance.

I've checked with most of the experts in this portion of numismatics and all agreed I was the only person to accomplish what I did in that year.

I was paid by a dealer in Ft. Walton to go to EVERY state East of the Mississippi River including all of Louisiana, within 5-6 months, over 17,000 miles. Searching banks/new rolls of Presidential $1 coins!

He has since passed away, leaving me the majority holder of this variety except for maybe one other major dealer in CA. His list for many hundreds more!

Good question, a coin actually has 3 sides, the error is on the edge. This type coin has the date, mint mark, E Pluribus Unum, incused/indented into the edge of the coin, these were run through twice by mistake. There is a special holder for them that allows you to see the edge if held at an angle. I also have a few "raw" Uncertified coins . Makes it easier to see the error. I will try to find a link to show and explain.

Notice that coins description says "inverted", the other version is "overlapped", in other words some coins have the lettering running in the same direction on top of each other but not aligned (overlapped). You can read them without flipping the coin

The inverted coins have lettering running overlapped but one is upside down or one would have to flip the coin to read it.

Edit to add I have many of both types, and most of mine are MS-65, this means Mint State 65 on a scale of MS 60- MS 70.

There were less than 200 graded MS-66. Those are pricey. Check the CA error dealers website

I need some details about where you got them, possibly so. And honestly there are so many of them and so many folks keeping them, you'd make more money for your descendants if you used them to get a savings bond, no Chit

I know this is an odd one fellas, and don't expect many takers, but something I got and willing to spread around at a cheap deal, mainly I enjoy helping/giving.

The 1st link is a certified example, here is a good link with some explanations, pics, good read for anyone curious about the "small golden" $1 coins that are around now, and a good pic of the doubled edge lettering on the adams as well as other errors.
